Hello,
I'm new to Asheville and MX. I used to ride supersport then switched to cycling. I have always been interested in MX and trail/Enduro.

To be "frank" is it worth getting into the sport in the Asheville area. More precise Hendersonville. I'm afraid I will get bored of going to the same places all the time. I see there is Lake Side close by, Wayehutta, cathys creak. I don't want to drive longer than I would ride if that makes sense.

I am little more interested in trail then MX. I'm pretty happy spending hours hours alone on the trails at my own pace. MX looks to be a blast but how many time can you go in a circle before getting bored or stuck in traffic. Like I said I have never MX before. For what I'm finding I can get into MX and take that same bike on the trails. Getting a little bit of both every time I go out. I'll ride mostly weekends.

So is it worth dropping 4k to get started in this sport in this area? Thank you for your input.

If you want trails, check out Brushy Mountain. I used to live in Boone and that was the place to ride if you wanted to get into the woods, not sure how far it is from Hendersonville though.

I was born and grew up in Hendersonville (22 years). There are only 3 public tracks within 1 hour drive, mats located in Tyron nc. And catheys creek located in forest city. Lake side Mx in TR sc. and 2 public trail systems Brown mtn. And a place in waynesville. Hendersonville is a giant retirement town, and they will shut down any attempts and private or public Mx tracks. Paul and Mike justice will be a good contact for all dirtbike needs. I think I would buy a super moto, and ride DuPont, Caesar head, park way, and tail of the dragon.

I think they still have some practice days at Silver Creek in Morganton. If it were me, I'd get a KTM dual sport, hit all the dirt roads, NCHSA events, the GNCC at Steel Creek and, practice days at Silver Creek in Morganton.

Matts down by Tryon is currently shut down, will hopefully re-open under some time. The hare scramble racing scene in the area is huge, www.Mideastracing.com www.nchsa.org www.gncc.com etc.

If you do not want to drive more than a half hour and think you will get bored on a motocross track, you may just want to take up shuffleboard or knitting instead. I can understand the desire to avoid long tedious drives but this is not Colorado or the desert southwest, there is no open wilderness to go explore, it is the east coast. If you want to explore trails, go check out brushy mountain and brown mountain.

By the way, If you get bored "going in circles" on a MX track, or anywhere else on a bike it is because you are not trying hard enough, you have to push yourself a little unless you are just interested in sightseeing

I'm avoiding "roads" I used to ride super bikes in California for years so my taste buds are tainted. I like to max wrist it everywhere I go. I don't think I can ride on the back roads at full speed without crashing into a person bs around or fly by a cop. That's why I'm looking at MX and places and can rip it up and maybe have a beer.

I learned years ago if you want to screw around, a track or private land is best. No more speeding tickets for me. At least not now hehehehe. Evil

I already mountain bike road bike and whitewater kayak. I road super sport for years and as you must know after awhile even a 1000 has a hard time getting your heart rate up.

I'll put shuffle board on the list. I'll be the first person to try to stab the other team with the stick thing.
