The Honda crew was nice enough to loan me an Africa Twin for a bit of testing... Sending it with street tires and a set of knobbies as well. So I decided to take her out for her maiden voyage in the dirt on Christmas to hit one of the corner tracks behind my house with some buddies. She does surprisingly well... Anyone else on here got a beast in this category? Laughing

I got to ride with Randy Richardson over thanksgiving and he was on a KTM adventure and was hauling ass on that thing. The kick stand was making more noise then the motor. It was some tight trail riding too.

..I bet that's actually quite fun- Until that pig lays over on you and you look like Wile-E-Coyote.

I was lucky enough to get to ride an Africa Twin, what a great bike!!! Ok maybe I'm biased I work at a Honda shop, I rode some euro adventure bikes but found the Honda to be a better balanced machine

Chris Birch is nuts on the adventure bike. I did a skills training session with him a few weeks ago, he said KTM are paying him to race the Erzberg on the 1190 Blink

LOL.

Before I got back to actual dirt bikes, I bought a KLR figuring that might fix my itch.

I sold it when I caught myself laying it over in the dirt so much that my pegs were going through the ground. I rode it like a 125, and a KLR weighs about a million pounds.

Sold it and bought my KTM 250. But good times trying to throw around a 600lb bike....

My favorite bike I have ever owned was my Honda Transalp! not quite to the level of the Africa Twin but I loved that thing, took it to Germany with me when I first joined the Army and blasted through the countryside and up and down the Autobahn... never should have sold it!

Yes I'm seriously thinking about purchasing one after I get my new 450!

I might be weird but I don't think there's many things more fun than trying to ride a big heavy, shouldn't be on a mx track type bike fast on a mx track

It's actually a blast... Especially because there were a few guys riding this spread out turn track today and I passed them on the beast... They promptly left afterwards! Laughing

The bike weighs north of 510 lbs but when you are riding it it only feels like 498.

Yeah, why wont Michael tell us what tires he's running?
Maybe he is trying to keep his race setup secret?
Looks like a set of Dunlop D606's

So, I guess this is an example on how NOT to "rail a rut on an Adventure bike". Some photographer named Simon Cudby, (you guys know him?) (wink)...Shot this of me on the 600+lb Yamaha Super Tenere railing a rut in Death Valley, CA right into the ground a couple of weeks ago. That is a Honda Africa Twin next to me in a more "upright position".

If you all have not checked out Simon's new "UpShift" ADV magazine...please do and support it! Makes ya wanna ride "the big bikes"!

The worst/funny part is that I could hear is motordrive on his camera through my headphones on the Cardo communications gear we were running. "Ahhh this is gonna..zzz-click,zzz-click, zzz-click,zzz-click..HURT".

The shot is pretty though...right?
