Sx 85 vs kx 85

New bike för my son next season. (Winter in sweden now)

Can kx85 really compare againt sx/hva 85?

In sweden the 85 class almost 100% sx/hva
Suprised to see kx85 in lorettas and mini major.
Or is it just Jett Reynolds high dollar kx factory bikes..that can keep up

Cant find any aftermarket removable subframe för the kx85.

The ktm/husky will be more competitive out the box, it is overall a better bike. The top kx85s, such as the monster bikes are pretty much factory bikes.

kx 85 pump gas runs forever as long as you clean the filter and change the oil when you think of it, best mini ever

Ktm/husky is a better option. Aside from the plastic the kx85 hasn't been changed in 10 years.

No comoarison, imo. We ran a 14 kx and no matter what we did my boy hated it. The YZ is a better bike. We bought a KTM and he loves it. I tried linkages, YZ forks etc to make the kx work. Not to mention they are shit to work on. The KTM works great right out if the box and is one of the easist bikes to work on. .......

KX engine was updated when they updated the body plastic. Supposedly more horsepower.

It depends which 85 class you mean, but in Europe there are much more different oem in the championships.
In sweden it's a bit extreme with ktm/hva but it's partly due to the fact that people think there are not working because everyone has ktm. In germany/france/Uk you'll see Kx, yz at the top as well.
In the 85 "guldhjälm" class with no mods, the kx is competitive even if there is one (1) horsepower more in the ktm. The kx have much better brakes for example, at every training session, I see people with ktm brakes problems.
The ktm is a full race bike with everything light weight and without marginals, if you have a big budget and are a good mechanic then the ktm is better.
They have some know problems like the throttle cable slips from the throttle house without any explanations. It seems that there are some differences between bikes even though there are coming from the same production line. You don't see that on japanese bikes. It's always frustrating to miss a race or a training session because of bike problems.
I think a good rider who is at the top will still be a the top with a yz or a kx but the yamaha and the kx will give many more hours of training/riding for your money/time.

KTM/Husqvarna is the way to go.

Yes you can make the other bikes good but the package that KTM/Husqvarna offers from scratch is by far number one.

Kawie all the way... why would you want to be another sheep in the crowd, stand out, take a chance, do something different and think of the prospect of beating the orange/white bikes on what some would deem a lesser machine, the KX is fast enough.....

From what I have heard you need to dump a bunch of money into the kx to make it competitive. Both my brother and I had last gen Ktms and they were really reliable bikes. For me it would depend on how much you have to pay for either bike and how fast your kid is.

There's a difference between being a sheep and picking the best tool for the job. JMO, but even years ago the YZ was better than the KX, the new husky/ktms must definitely be better.

How do the 85s rank as far as distance from the seat to the footpegs?

I am considering a KX, YZ, or a SX and can't find them locally to sit on.

Thank You

Can't speak on the YZ since we never owned one. My kid did race the KX then switched to a Husky. The KTM/Husky rider triangle is a bit more open than the KX is. He was getting a little cramped, I was able to keep him on the Husky for another 2 1/2 years due to the extra room and adjustability. Move the bars forward and a tall seat gave him another year that we wouldn't have gotten out of the KX.

KTM/Husky are far better from a few different aspects. One they are ready to race and don't need much modification. Two the are much easier to work on. Everything is higher quality and KTM really took big bike tech and scaled it down to fit smaller bikes. The KX is old tech for little bikes. And not much less expensive.
