We are playing with a 250 sx now, i can tell you that the Reeds was not sealing, we juggled them around and they are flat.

This made absolutely no change, still the same blubbery down low.

No more jetting for me , sick of messing with that shitty mikuni , they over carburated the 17s. 38mm is to big for a 150. Bike is unreal now 17s are perfect besides the carb issue, you can set the mikuni up good but it's finicky, easy fix with the Lectron, 0-10 000 ft no jetting , warm to cold no jetting , a Lectron carb is as close to efi is ur going to get for 2 stroke as of now anyways, no regrets for me , worth every penny of the $700 I spent on it.
Our 16 runs great but it has a mod motor with the Keihin

My buddy bought the JD kit for his sons 17 and it runs great. Though you may want to try going down on the pilot. MXA went way down on the pilot jet for the 17 125 test. I think it was like a a 20 or 25?

38mm is not too big for a 125. We put 38's on the RM 125's back in the 90's and they ripped!

No the bike would deff be better with a 36 mm , it had a 36mm on the 16s and they were fine, ya u can run the 38mm obv but it's bigger then needed and runs better with a 36mm.

And he bought the jd jet kit that's why it ran great lol you shouldn't have to buy a jd jetting kit to make the bike run good , it should run good right from the factory with very little tweaks to the carb, the 36 keihin suites the 150 better a 36 mm has more low end power then a 38mm which is what the 17s are lacking , there good on the top just not enough low end grunt , a 36mm would deff of helped , Ihad the 2016 150 and it was better with the smaller keihin carb i only sold it cause i bought the 2017 300 xc and loved the suspension and air fork so I sold the 16 for a 2017 150sx.

I'm pretty sure in 2016 the 125 and 150 sx had 38 mm mikuni carbs while the 2016 ktm 250sx had a 36 mm Keihn carb. I think your wrong.
10/19/2016 4:30pm
I'm half right half wrong. 2016 ktm 125sx test in mxa. 38 mm Keihn carb. Not mikuni. Buts it's 38mm.

10/19/2016 4:55pm
Ya ur right the keihin was better though, i still think a 36 would be better for the 150 and just take away a tooth on the rear sprocket so u still have good top end speed.

I tested my compression at 2.4hrs and had 185psi and later found a warped reed. When I got the replacement from Husky I tested again and am now at 225psi. The bike definitely ran better, but was pretty much dog shit before and still ran poorly with the JD kit. Eventually I cut open my airbox behind both side plates to help it breath and dropped down to a 27.5 pilot with the JD #3 and a 440 main. Now it finally runs good.
10/19/2016 5:02pm
Ya I herd about ppl doing that to there air boxes but I just don'twant mud and shit to get in there cause i ride really muddy trails, if i do end up doing it I'm deff going to put some kind of mesh or screen in it to. Not that I need to now cause i got the Lectron and the bike runs amazing but if i do, that's what I'll be doing.
10/19/2016 5:08pm
The spot where it's cut out to put ur hand in to pop the air box cover off let's air get thru there, tthat's all u need , if it was totally sealed and starving for air the bike wouldn't run I dont think ktm is that stupid to not give the bike enough air, it's just because of bad jetting because with the lLectron carb on it runs amazing and I haven't touched the air box.
10/19/2016 5:12pm Edited Date/Time 10/19/2016 5:14pm
It'srunning better because u cut the air box allowing more air in and leaning out the bike, if u would lean the bike out with jetting it properly u would get the same results without cutting ur air box lol same thing ,u don't need to cut it, now iit's just gonna get right dirty all the time way faster for no reason.

Nice! Been saying it all a long to my buddies. If you buy a new two stroke no matter how good you think you are with jetting it will never get easier than a lectron. You could be a jetting guru but with my bike you'd still have to change it every time the damn wind blew. Not anymore lol
Lol , Yup Lectron is the way to go eespecially with ktms and huskys might as well just spend the extra coin soon as u buy the bike and just throw on the Lectron, the bike is a whole new beast when u install a Lectron carb!

I put some holes in my side plate with mesh. Super mellow. Filters don't get much more dirty thank before. I also drilled a lot out the plastic tray under the seat.

I like the way you placed them into the black No. plate background Joe, looks good.
Did you do the same on the 125?

I'm going to do different graphics on my 125 so I don't think it will look as sleek. I got lucky with that set up design. Hahhaha

Ya no that's not bad at all long as there is mesh in it u should be fine, so that made a big difference then?

Where did you get the mesh from?

Did you just glue it?

Thanks!

So on my 250f we did a dyno run with whole cover on and off... Almost 1hp gain with it off but the curve was really wobbly so you wouldn't actually want to run it like that. We found a happy medium with the cover holes and drilled the plastic battery holder under the seat.

It's actually just mesh screen that goes in windows at home depo. I bought a small screen for a few bucks and cut it up. Drill the holes, Spray the inside of the plastic with 3m adhesive and stick it on.

Hahaha, yeah I just drilled around all the spots where wires weren't.

Crazy how open the 125 area is under the seat and how simple the wire is. Blows my mind!

I picked up a modded 16 model 125 for my son last month and it's a blast to ride.

It is much easier to go fast on than the 150.

No mesh or screen though? Other then that thou that's pretty slick, I'd buy that.

I'd like to drill some holes, put some mesh on them then throw a small little stick on scoop over it to cover the holes and get the air in better and Ithink it would look badass ,just a very small scoop that only sticks out like a inch so it doesn't get in the way. Something like the picture.

Why do you find that about the 125? I haven't ridden them back to back.
10/20/2016 3:50pm Edited Date/Time 10/20/2016 3:50pm
The 125 is the exact same as the 150, same crank and everything just a little more displacement, they are both basically identical, a 125 becomes a 150 with just a cylinder kit, that's all, 150 does like to Rev tthough and all its power is in the high rpms so u gotta ride it fast to get the power out of it , maybe that's somewhat what he'sttrying to say.
10/20/2016 3:53pm
I would think the 125 is the exact same ride as the 150 just a little more power, I can't see it riding totally different.

The 150 has a different main adjuster PV spring than in the 125, matched up to the none colored progressive smaller PV spring. This combo gives the 150 a real bog/zap/hit in the midrange making it very difficult for the majority of riders to go fast on. This is why MXA prefers to race the 125 over the 150, as they do run alot different.
That being said I have spent the last 4 months trying to make the mid more ridable on my SX 150 and I am really happy with it now. Installed JD kit as none of the stock or optional Mikuni needles work very well at my elevation 4000 - 8000 OSL. I have tested yellow, blue & red PV springs and settled on the blue 2 1/2 turns in from all the way out.Bud racing carbon muffler. Eliminated the horrible mid hit and it rips throughout the hole powerband. I have a lower volume/diff shape head coming and a SXS pipe I want to try on it.
10/20/2016 8:31pm
If u can't handle the mid on a 150 and think iit's uncontrollable then never get a bigger bike , it hits a bit hard yes but that's what u want it's called power that's a good thing and its totally controlable it's just shy of 200 lbs if u can't control it u shouldn't be riding it it'slike one of the easiest handling bikes iI've owned , u want it to hit harder then a 125 it should, it's a faster bike, if it didn't everyone would complain it's not much faster then a 125 and not worth the extra coin. It's a 150 lol if u said that about a 300 then it would be a little more believable lol not trying to be a ass but I have a 2017 150 sx and I love the mid so i dont understand why u would want to smooth that out, i like my bikes snappy , it rockets out of corners. I also have a 300 xc now that bike is a rocket.
10/20/2016 9:09pm
Its not that I can't handle the mid hit, as I raced Pro XC for 18 years and ISDE on 300's, the difference here is your a professional practice rider and I am building a race bike too race. Oh, and you failed at not being an Ass.
