Small update... Installed the new head stem bearings and just mocked up the triple clamps... The lighting is terrible ( shop lights-no good ) so the red looks a little off against the hydro finished clamps...

Ok I need honest opinions on the red plastics....this is artificial light so the plastics are a bit off colour ( as is the frame )... I always knew the plastics and red frame would be a gamble and I 'lost' haha. Now I was considering breaking up the red frame with WHITE plastics all round...I already have a white rear fender so just need the radiator shrouds and front fender. I will match up the graphics red as close to the frame remembering that the Honda wing will be gold on the radiator shrouds...

The only other consideration would be that the radiator shrouds will be covered with the graphics.. So...???
I still think the white all round will be a very clean contrast to the standout red frame and accents ( red hubs/axle holders etc...) the White will tie in well with the retro-modern idea I was shooting for Smile

This is the idea for graphics ( basing my design off these )....
Keeping in mind the wing will be retro gold, ditch HRC and add my 'sponsors'

I think all white plastics would be cool. Help offset red from the frame and would be pretty unique. All red plastics and red frame is a lot of red.

Id stick with what you have, or at least see how the graphics will look against the frame on red plastics.

The unique part would be having the backdrop of the white plastics...it's an idea I've used before on a Suzuki that I made into a blue/white theme (I'll post a picture )... I'm thinking that the white against red would really work well ( even if the shroud is covered in a graphic...

Thanks for the input guys Smile I like how we're all 125 lovers :D

What I might do is look at the graphics and see what I come up with... I'm flexible with the plastics because I can probably exchange the red ones for white ones Smile

Can't believe I lasted updated vital on this build over a 3weeks ago Shocked not to mention that I've started a new job at work which has taken up much of my timeSad

Anyways the Kashima coat is finished ( although the parts are still in Japan ) and I'm just waiting on the shock shaft...which wasn't in spec so they chromed/machined it to spec before Ti-Ni... I've finished the 'porting' work ( just matching the cases to the cylinder and the exhaust flange to the cylinder etc )... Here are the pictures Smile

Kashima looking AWESOME!!! I love the colour ( I wasn't expecting the nice bronze colour as these are not billet parts )

It's amazing how much overlap there is between the cylinder and cases creating a lot of turbulence...

The exhaust flange is much larger than the cylinder-I marked and removed the excess material Smile

The case have been hot washed and are ready to have the bearings sweated into the cases then I'll be looking at the trasmission and checking everything there... Baby step lol
The last batch of Aqua blast parts were returned the other day and I have the last bits read to go!!

Decided that I'll get the transmission REM'd/isotropic finished..some before pictures...

It'll be interesting to see the difference in shifting once done....

I also bolted together a few more parts ready to go ( levers/footpegs/brakes/throttle etc ) pictures tomorrow Smile

I think black shrouds with a gold wing on a red frame just might look pretty slick.

Powder coating requires the part go in a 400* F oven for 20 minutes. I wonder if that affected the hardening and strength of the aluminum frame?

Plenty of guys do it so I dont think that should be a worry

Did you try rotating the the exhaust manifold on the cylinder before porting it ? It's slightly oval so if you have it the wrong way you'll get a mismatch like you do in your pic, that's why it has both too much material in some places, and too little in others.

Yes I did, the flange bolts are offset so the flange can only be fitted one way.

The powder coat process won't weaken the frame.

Very strange, the only time i've ever seen one off like that is when it's bolted on the wrong way, still, if you're sorted it's all good, bikes coming along nicely.

P.S, i didn't mention the frame buddy, if that was for me.

Well I went to make a start on the assembling the transmission and bottom end today and what do ya know... The company that did the ISF forgot a one of the bushes!! I'm pretty annoyed but hey...

Anyways I got a few bits out the way, the cylinder is ready with new studs and I'm soaking the carbon crusted PV overnight to get that stuff off...

The cases are loaded up with most bearings and ready for assembly!

Tonight I tackled the brakes...which simply entailed assembling them and I mocked up the rear brake and adjusted the brake line to get the right bend near the master cylinder...
Night photos... But anyways...

I'm really liking how it's coming together!

I wanted to start on the airbox...but I forgot the seal.... Argh!

Out with the old...

In with the new!

If you are talking about forgetting the seal between the airbox and the airbox boot, then just use some Loctite Grey Maxx. Not sure what sort of seal Honda use but if its anything like the foam seal Suzuki use then Grey Maxx will be light years better. When I stripped the airbox apart on my 08 RM125 I could see that sand had nearly worked its way past the foam seal.

Yep, it is a really light/airy foam seal... I did the exact same as you OP, bought it all from the states and forgot the seal.... Ordered it from my local last week and paid 8.60gbp for a 5 buck part... If i knew what it was i would've made something better...

If you do buy one maybe coat it with filter oil before fitting for better protection ?

Nice build. Is there any particular reason why you kept the KYB suspension instead of switching to Showa twin chambers and shock?

That's the million dollar question right thereSmile

I guess I wanted to keep it 'original' also the extra money to get another set of suspension then do all the coatings would have been a bit much.
Strangely enough I really liked the suspension prior to this build! It was plush and held up to the bigger stuff ok... In all fairness I'm not pro rider so I was happy with it as it was... The current improvements in coatings and a slight revalve should hit the sweet spot!
