Been experiencing this for a while now, happens when trying to fall asleep but not any other time. Toes feel like there cramping. Done some research and apparently there is no cure. I never was dx'd by a doctor for RLS but I had it sporadically for a couple of years especially nights after hard bicycle rides. The crawling skin sensation from random muscle fibers contracting briefly all around your calves will drive a person batty. Supplements, Epsom salt baths, massage, nothing really worked. I stopped drinking alcohol for a New Years Resolution a few years back and the RLS faded away.

I haven't been diagnosed by a doctor, but pretty sure I have it. Sucks right when you doze off and you're in that sweet spot where you're totally relaxed and then your leg goes freaking crazy, waking you up and then you have to start all over again. lol Finally fall asleep an hour after getting in bed. Does yours favor one leg? Seems my left leg does it most of the time, although my right one does it too.

Keep tabs of what you eat.

MSG, anything with a lot of it makes my legs kinda that way.

Monosodiumgultamate. (Sp?). Chinese food, tons of it.

My father has it. (Sometimes I think I am destined for it).

There is medication for it (I don't think that is widely known), he is on it & it helps tremendously. My Aunt (his sister in law), same deal. Takes the same med, helps tremendously (although right now is unfortunately fighting what looks like a losing cancer battle).

So - ask you doctor. He should be able to prescribe a fix. Don't know the name of it, I can try to find out next time I see him, if I think of it.

Exactly the same for me, favors right leg though.

I get the full on Karate kick thing too and sometimes it's while fast asleep and wakes you right up. This is why I wonder if I have a pinched nerve. Last time this happened (last week) RLS went away for a while but eventually came back.

I don't have RLS but there are occasions when I can't sleep because my legs are restless and my mind is racing. When this happens, I get out of bed, go into another room and stretch. Clears my mind and gives my legs what they needed. Worth a try.

My doctors would prescribe me two drugs to treat my back when it goes out. One was a muscle relaxant that made me drowsy and the other was an anti-inflammatory that gave me RLS. No narcotics or pain meds per se, but the drugs were definitely the culprit for me.

It sucks to be tired and want to sleep but your legs want to get up and run laps and your back says there's no damn way we're even sitting up this afternoon buddy.

Coffee / caffeine or any other kind of stimulant can also cause it. Especially if you're weaning yourself off of it.

I get the mind racing before a migraine kicks in ,it's like 1000 thoughts going on all at once.

Magnesium Citrate has a laxative effect if you take too much. Works well as a muscle relaxant.

I was watching Chelsea Lately's new show on Netflix and she was talking about how she had restless leg and her doc gave her beta blockers and it was all good. Of course, this is only a patch to the problem.

Most descriptions in this thread sound more like myoclonus. Known to occur with opioid withdrawls.

Rooster's description sounds like RLS. It is sometimes treated with opioids to relieve some signs and symptoms.

There are exceptions to anything. Just trying to help since they are treated differently.

I get it all the time. It's a ticklish feeling deep in my muscles that won't go away unless I flex the muscle. It's so bad that I can't sleep. (It happens usually when I'm resting on the couch or in bed, usually only in the evening or at night.)

I've noticed that caffeine and/or sugar consumption contribute to the occurrences.

I've had it for as long as I can remember (which increased after breaking my right kneecap and left ankle). It's a nightly battle between feeling like lightning storms in the legs to bugs crawling around to just basic soreness / needing to move.

That said – I've tried a few of the prescriptions and nothing has really helped like a little marijuana. I'll usually smoke or nibble on an edible about an hour before bed and it drastically reduces the pain allowing me to fall asleep pretty quick. Without it I tend to lay in bed moving my legs for an hour or so before the brain finally shuts off.

Find what works for you, might be a prescription, might be a calming tea, or it might be a little weed.

I bet smoking some pot before bed time fix rls. Have you guys tried that?

*Never mind, I just saw that the above poster already mentioned it.

I avoid prescription pain meds, last time I took them I didn't shit for a week, bad trade off IMO. I have eaten enough Advil and Aleve to kill an elephant. Not into weed either. Think in gonna try the bar of soap under the bottom sheet thing. Sounds flippin' crazy but at this point I'll try anything.
