First off, I really like Weege.

I finally had a chance to watch first motos and I am amazed that Weege did not know what needed to happen for Roczen or Webb to clinch a title. With Roczen winning, you would think he would know exactly what place Tomac had to finish or worse in order for the title to be clinched. With Martin winning, you would think he would know just how high Webb had to finish to clinch. Even if he didn't know it ahead of time, how does he not have the points standings in front of him and figure out what needs to happen when presented with the current race order? I did that math in my head as I was watching but for less enthusiastic fans, don't you think by saying "If Webb can get up to third, he can win the title!", it would build excitement for the viewer? There was no anticipation built up by Weege not being aware of what needed to happen.

Imagine how hard he would have got blasted on here if he did the math wrong in his head.

I agree. I was surprised when he was saying that Roczen could potentially win the title in the first race and he didn't know how high Tomac had to get to stop him. He basically didn't know until after the finish, that was pretty poor

I'll tell you why. Because he has a director talking to him through his headphones, counting him down for all sorts of things like ad breaks and edit points. And while this is going on he is trying to call the race and be entertaining, and not miss anything. And he can't say to his audience 'just talk amongst yourselves' while he goes and checks the points situation out mid-race.

There is no time to provide useful analysis like that. Where do you expect them to fit that information in the production when they have to show the Kawasaki track map 4 times. The fram cam, the go pro cam, the geico half way point (as if we are incapable of reading ourselves that half of 30 is 15).

But yea, I was wondering the same thing. Both Tomac and Webb were charging through the pack but no one knew what place they needed to get to keep the title from being clenched, on in the case of Webb, what position he needed to reach to clinch the title.

Overall, between the production telecast and the announcing it was a very poorly produced race for the TV viewers. One of the worst I can recall this year. Shame too because I thought the telecast at Unadila was really good all things considered.

Herein lies the issue with the folks producing and directing these broadcast (with a little fault thrown in to Weege and GL). It should have been spelled out right from the get go of the broadcast. We have two guys looking to potentially lock up their titles and you can't do the friggin math. I also swear that I heard Langston claim that a 4-1 beats a 2-2 late in the second 250 moto?

Maybe any fan of the sport that wants to know what the title clinching scenarios are? Same reason they have playoff scenarios for football going into the last few weeks of the year. It lays it all out. It's called insight for the viewer. It also builds suspense. It's part of the entertainment. You care enough to post a reply.

Exactly. I understand they have a lot going on during the production so I don't really fault them for not doing the math on the spot, but it should have been done ahead of time or by the guy speaking into his ear.
