This picture was in the "works bike" post from earlier today. I've never seen the twin-spar frame on a yamaha. Does anybody have more pics of it or know anything about it?

I remember something about a prototype Yamaha in Europe a few years ago.
Is was all about the alloy frame.

That wasn't raced in the GP's more than likely Japanese Nationals.

I have a picture of it an old Dirt Bike magazine from '92, i'll dig out the mag and see what info they had on it.

Pretty sure the bike above was a 250, the YZM's that were raced in europe were 500s

Yep, that's Japanese Nationals only bike. It was never used in the GPs.

I don't think it ever materialized...I think it was just an artist rendering...hence the muffler.

Nope, that bike did race in the Japanese Nationals, and it was a 250. I seem to remember Yamaha or Honda was also experimenting with an automatic transmission in the Japanese Nats at that time, but that project never bore any fruit.

Same site that photo came from had a these also... If I was multi-lingual I could read the dang article and see what it says about the bikes....

yea i have seen the top pic before i beleive it was a prototype 500 . would have been the 1st aluminum framed production mx bike if it had made it ... def ahead of its time in the 80's... funny how the 87 looks like current yamaha frame and the 91 looks like early honda models...

That 87 YZM looks like the GP bike of the time. They took the seat-on-the-tank concept to the extreme.
