I have read in some past articles about the benefits of porting for the 2010-2013 YZ450F. It appears to have helped with the jerkiness, and also smoothed out the power while obviously making more horsepower too. This porting included the high compression piston also, but no other modifications. Yosh did one of the port jobs in an article, and it was really given a thumbs up by the testers. I have the Injectioneering throttle body modification, Stealthy flywheel, and a Roll On throttle tube which slows throttle response, and these have worked okay for alleviating the jerky throttle response. I am also considering the Vortex 10 Ignition too, as I have read that alone may be the ticket to smoothing everything out, and any comments concerning using it on this model would be appreciated. My question is, have any of you guys had these models and had the porting and HC piston done. If you did, was it worthwhile? I have a 2010 YZ450F that I am not getting rid of anytime soon, and was looking to make it more friendly for myself. There are a couple of GYTR heads online also, but they are about $300-400 more than the porting for my stock head, but that may be an option too. I will not be doing any cams or valve mods, only head and HC piston. Thx for any responses fellas.

Vortex mapped for the fuel. ,full pipe, good fuel. Vp or renegade. And the bike will be great ,gear 13/50, fresh tires, suspension.

I have a full FMF, suspension done for me, and that gearing too. I do not run the fuel though, just VP Regular Fuel(the regular type gas with no additives or ethanol). What did you notice with this combo, as it would appear to probably make it even more instant on when initially opening the throttle. I am trying to smooth that out some, but more power everywhere else would be fine.

I have a '13 that I have a full FMF, 13/49 gearing, Hot Cams builder series cams, Vertex hc piston, Twin Air throttle body power flow kit ( I only used the new shaft and larger throttle valve as this was supposed to help mid and up, the other configuration helped low to mid). The exhaust and cams seemed to help some with the jerkiness and helped to make the motor pull a little higher into the rpms, in my opinion in stock configuration this motor signed off too early and yes I realize it is a 450. When I installed the hc piston I also switched to VP T4 so I cannot comment on if the piston helped by itself or not. With the piston and fuel the bike didn't seem any more jerky down low than it was before but it did pull a little longer and harder. I am going to try some U4.4 or VPR and see if I like those fuels any better or if I should stick with the T4. I have played with the Yamaha tuner and have not been impressed a whole so far, it is nice that you can change things and feel a slight difference but I have a suspicion that with the stuff I have done so far the tuner isn't really making much difference at this point. I too want to try a port job and maybe a different tuner set up like Vortex or GET. Not looking for a high hp rocket like my friends tend to think I am, just chasing a set up I like and why not make a bike everything it can be to make the rider comfortable and confident? I also won't be selling my bike anytime soon if ever, if I do decided to get a newer yz I will likely still keep my 13. Kind of nice passing those new bikes of all colors on a bike that most tried to say everyone would hate

Well, that's an impressive list of mods you guys have done. Why haven't you tried a flywheel weight? I have the 9oz Steahly and it does exactly what you are looking for.

I am trying to do the same, about making my power friendlier for myself as I ride it much better when I can get some good roll on throttle out of the turns. Thanks for the response. There is a post in Thumpertalk about the Vortex 10, and it describes what it does to the bike pretty well, just search the YZ450F forum for Vortex.

You are correct, as I think that it helped quite a bit.

Anybody else have past info concerning this bike question? I know it is an older bike, but I am 53 and do not intend to get rid of it any time soon, as it is low hour because of a major injury I got. Any comments about the GYTR heads for this model years 2010-2013?

I bought a used 2011 YZ450F last January. Full Yosh exhaust, GYTR piston, and GYTR cam. I have nothing to compare it to, as it is the only 450 I've ever ridden, but the bike absolutely rips. It ran fine with pump gas, but I recently switched to VP's u4.4 once I found out a VP rep lives near me.

The bike had a 14/52 sprocket combo on it initially, which again, I had nothing to compare it to. I recently swapped it out for a 13/50 and I have a feeling I will be going back to a 14/51 or 52 once these wear out. With my bike's motor, the 14/52 suited me much better.
