Help me plan a riding trip at Taylor park. I m going out shortly after labor day. I plan to ride for probably 2 days. I'm good for all the way primitive camping. Where do I stay? Where do I ride? What do I need to do for prep work?
I was a kid the last time I went riding in the mountains, so I wasn't really involved in the logistics end of it

Timberline Trail and Fossil Ridge if you are looking for gnarly singletrack. Dr. Park is also a good one, only the beginning from Taylor River Rd is gnarly. Lots of switchbacks.
Also look into American Flag Mtn. The best way (singletrack) is to hit Lilly Pond then hop on Star Trail until you reach the top near the base of the mtn. From there you can take some fun two track then on the West side of American Flag you can find some really cool singletrack.
I haven't been stuck yet, but our first year we ended up riding 25 miles on the the highway to get back to camp. I was on an xr100 at the time LOL.
We just went last week. It was beautiful but dusty.

It was with my uncle who has rode 3 times on dirt total, and with my Dad who rode once or twice this year. Nonetheless Stair Trail is pretty fun from beginning to Flag Mtn. Now the other way is a different story, but can be done
We always rent cabins right at Taylor Park, but they usually have up-to a year pre-booked reservations.
For essentially your first time out, pick a common basecamp area, study the maps and just explore. Two days isn't nearly enough, but if that's what your schedule allows, I'm sure we can suggest a few key trails to get the most out of your time.
I really dig the Cement Creek area - lots of good high elevation riding and some technical stuff on both sides of the ridge. We've also done a nice cruiser ride from Taylor all the way to Aspen for lunch. Lots of variety - but be prepared for very rough & rocky terrain. Open up those compression adjusters.
As said above, Timberline is gnarly. I'm a good technical rider, and its one of the tougher trails I've done, mostly due to the length, and it just never stops coming at you.We did it end-to-end the last year I was there, on the last day of our week-long trip - all three of us were pretty beat by the end. We started on the end closest to Tin Cup - it starts out with great flow and really fun, and just keeps getting a bit tougher.
The Taylor area is hammered - trails are really rough. We've also stayed in Sergeants which was great as well.
