Looking for some info. Just moved out to LA. Pretty pumped to be this close to all the action now. I've always wanted to attend a Glen Helen National and cant belive its only a couple days away now.

Just wondering, you guys have any good stories of spectating previous GH Nationals or must see / must do activities at the park?

Thanks! Maybe I'll see some of you guys out there

I was standing in the corner right next to the infamous Alessi/Tedesco incident......I watched, and listened to the entire event take place about 10' away from me.

Watching Ricky launch himself off the side of the first uphill in '01 was pretty intense. He came back to finish 8th that moto too.

At the first or second gp or national instead of getting in the traffic jam on the way out we stood on the bank and watched people exit down the wash doing some relatively rough four wheeling for the new trucks that were getting abused and the motor home that almost tipped over. A fence was installed for the next big race.

Is there a gate C available this year? At the Glen Helen Amphitheatre, exit the 15 freeway at Glen Helen parkway,
there is usually parking and you walk in the back way. In the past it was gate C. Park high on the hill near the entrance to the paved path way and it is about a 1 mile hike to the track. Save yourself the hassles of driving out of the front parking lots.

I shot the sequence of photos that were published in Transworld. Definitely a crazy moment in history.

Bayle going 3 for 3 when gp's were three moto's and one race he rode for I believe 10 minutes or so with a rear flat.

Been to numerous Nats there. Just a few suggestions.

1). Get there way early. Like 8am, enjoy the cool morning air. Watch all the practices. Scope the place out.

2). Park over the hill (North - look on Google earth) in the amphitheater grass lot and walk down the canyon to the track.

3). Bring good hiking shoes or boots. You will be hiking.

4). Bring a portable light weight shade device. Umbrella etc.

5). Go stand against the inside of the fence at the apex of the first right hand sweeper when the 450's take off. Nothing like it on earth.

Glen Helen is a heat pit, it can get real hot, dusty, windy etc. It can also be overcast and cool all day. Just depends.

I like sitting in a fold up chair on the side of one of the mountains for the best view

Both he and Todd DeHoop who won the four stroke race on a Husky ran #22

It looked like JMB was on a trail ride but of course he was going blistering fast

Yes, you can get in from the amphitheater.

It's paved all the way to the vendor's camping area now.

You MUST climb Mount St. Helen's to the top. Parts are so steep you will think you can't make it (or at least my out of shape ass thought that). Watching the riders wide open up the hill is great, but watching them wide open down a seemingly near vertical drop is just a memory you won't forget.

All the lazy people stay near the "flat" areas, make the effort to climb some mountains it is worth it.

And the views are amazing. The margarita stand is always worth stopping as well.

I saw Ricky Carmichael absolutely ruin John Dowd on 125s in 1998. Dowd ruined everyone not named Ricky Carmichael too.

Saw RC Crash and DNF that race one year, too - toward the end of his career.

I saw K-Dub on a big CRF450 holeshot his first race back from semi-retirement. He had a handle on a hard-charging RC too. It wasn't until Windham crashed that #4 got by.

Great spots to watch will be the triple step-up near the north end of the track and the view from the inside of the first turn. Also, don't leave without climbing up Mt. Saint Helen - you won't believe how steep it is.
