I have a super clean oem silencer for a 87 CR 250. Not sure if they will work or not.

Thanks MB! I'm not sure either, been trying to find out. If it fits id like to buy.

If I remember right I had a PC silencer in 86 but can't remember if I used on my 87 or not.

This is what I found. They are different part numbers. It might bolt on there but they are not the same.

Thank you Bman, that clears it up. Trying to stick with the 86 year specific silencer if possible

I keep forgetting about the online resources available nowadays for cross-referencing parts. Sure makes things easy.

Yeah, but the pipes themselves carry different part numbers and yet I know for a fact that they interchange.

You texted me about this yesterday.

The stock silencer for the 87 has a different shape than the 86 but I believe the mounting points are the same. Therefore, I believe they interchange with minimal modification (if any).

This is based on a $7.5k restoration of an 86 CR250 and two 87 CR250 restores. All of these were frame-up, tire-to-handlebar projects.

As I mentioned when we texted yesterday, I'll reach out to you later this week.

The '86 had a 3 part exhaust system with a small "mid-pipe" to connect the silencer and pipe together. They simplified it in '87, and went to a 2 part system. As you can see in the parts schematics, the two silencers are different in length, as the '87 has the mid-pipe integrated and it is longer. Bottom line is, pipes are the same and can interchange. The '87 silencer will bolt right on the '86, but to put and '86 silence on a '87, you would also need that mid-pipe. I have a Pro-Circuit pipe and silencer that is for the '87 (2 piece design) on my '86, and they mount right up and work great! I hope that helps.

Thanks mxracer.

Apologies guys I should know this. Been swamped at work and trying to gather some needed parts before disassy and frame paint. After seeing numerous off the chart 86 CR builds here, which aren't cheap, I'm going to put it back to stock spec and just race it as much as possible. Jonesin' to ride a two stoke again

Just waiting on someone to get back with me, looks like a couple vital members have 87 silencers available.
