Hi guys, basically my inner clutch cover on my 08 crf 250r has a nasty crack so I need to replace it.

The case I ordered is slightly different to my current case and won't fit, I will try and explain why below.

My case has this part: http://i.imgur.com/bGeVC3W.jpg
The above part goes into the case towards the top near the oil cap: http://i.imgur.com/oYTHCzE.png
As you can see on MY case the top near oil cap is holo so it will all fit.

However the case I bought is slightly different, the case looks like this:

Because of the part highlighted in red it won't slot into the part I highlighted above, my idea is to remove this part on my current case: http://i.imgur.com/bGeVC3W.jpg and then fit the new case.

But the problem is I don't know what the thing is that I am going to remove from my case to fit the new outer case, does anyone know what it actually does? It doesn't move or anything. It seems pretty harmless to remove it.

That is an oil guide plate. Don't suggest removing it, your clutch won't get lubricated properly.

I kind of ran into the opposite problem. Right half case broke on a 2005 CRF250. Ordered a case 1/2 and it came with only 1 mounting hole (your style) instead of the 2 holes the older 2005 case had.

Original 2005 case with old style Oil Guide Plate on top. Case sent by Honda on bottom.

So, Munch, I think the cover you got is for an older style setup with the flat, 2-hole oil guide plate. Not compatible.

Also, I don't think the setup is to guide the oil towards the clutch during operation. I think it's to guide the oil to the transmission instead of the clutch area when you are pouring it in from the filler hole (the old setup with the flat plate, that is.)

Oil is going to flow to tranny through other holes. I think the oil guide plates are there to direct oil as bike is running.

Yes, eventually it will flow from the clutch side over to the tranny. However, if you check the level using the check screw immediately after pouring it in you could potentially get a false reading of it being full before it has a chance to level out.

If you look at the inside of the older style cover, it's obvious that when you pour the oil in the filler cap it will be guided over the top of the "oil guide plate" and through the hole over to the tranny side.

Obviously, Honda didn't think this was too important since they eliminated it on the later models.
