For an individual, net worth is the value of a person's assets, including cash, minus all liabilities. The amount by which the individual's assets exceed their liabilities is considered the net worth of that person. It has nothing to do with future yearly income, unless that income can be monetized as an asset.
Directionally and on a relative basis, the numbers could well make sense -- net worth is affected by things like how well you invest your money when you earn it, how much risk you take to grow your assets, how good your investment advisers are, how many leaches and others you support, whether or not you blow a lot of your money on a high lifestyle, how generous or stingy you are, and, of course, whether you've been taken to the cleaners in a divorce.
Regarding Joe Gibbs, the value of JGR the company would directly impact his individual net worth -- this based on his percent ownership and valuation of JGR -- the valuation being much different than how much it costs to run the NASCAR team every year. JGR ownership may well be split among family members and other investors so the numbers may be in the ball park, IDK.
Chad Reed promotes Supercross in Australia and if that business alone is any good it could be worth $60 by itself.
Ken Block may well have been paid partially in stock for DC shoes and that stock may have appreciated substantially since the sale. Thus, his sky high valuation could be justified.
Anyway, it was fun to poke around the site for shits and giggles.
That was back in 2011 when negotiations didn't workout for him with any teams.
He then went and started his own team "Two Two Motorsports".
People were calling him a Privateer in a sense after he did that.
I called him the worlds richest privateer.
Pulling up with a factory style semi and a huge crew of high salary support crew guys lol.
He had some of the best in the industry working for him.
Fast Forward....
He finished second in the points that year I believe also.
I just never viewed him as a privateer.
I think jury is still out on that one.
He never got factory Honda parts I dont believe - but his setup/program was top notch to a certain degree.
Far more of a setup than what the true privateers had.
