De-Tuned CR/KX 500 2 stroke

i really dont notice the vibrations but then again its not that often im sittin idling... what appeals to me is that i prefer to lug my bikes always have so the power of the 500 suits my style perfect but even with short shifting and luggin it its still faster than my 450 in the straights as well can carve under the 450 i had anyday of the week... gotta love the 2 stokes... my only gripe it limits the clases you can race in as they limit cc's to 450 inthe over 30 class so pretty much all that left is the 2 stoke open which is fine but im no "seasoned" intermediate + rider as ive only been riding for about 5 years now so although its just for fun not to much fun gettin lapped by the "seasoned" pros.....

Most can't handle a 450 4 stroke, let alone a 500cc 2 stroke.

Why not detune a 500 down to 450 CC, and have a Mag like MXA or TWMX test that.........say a Service Honda/Kawasaki, CR 450?

TWMX already had faster lap times on a 500 compared to 450...would they improve with a 450 2 stroke being a bit more tame?
Kinda like how the Dunes and sand Mellow a CR/KX 500.

Or has someone tested a 300 2 stroke/350 2 stroke against a 450 4 stroke? If they have, I haven't seen it.
MXA has tested a CRF450 against a CR500 bike comparison

The later 500s had a heavier flywheel but my 88 CR500 I easily added a flywheel weight to it and raced it for six years.

People who talk about them being too much just need to grow a pair before they say they're too much. I also never noticed any vibration issues in 20 minute motos at Carlsbad where my CR500 spent most of its life. Nothing like starting in third gear and wheelying all the way to the first turn catching fourth on the way to it!

I've owned and raced the KTM 360,380 and 300. Given the choice of those 3 in a modern chassis I would take the 300 every time. Its just easier to go fast on.

A 500cc two stroke is too much horsepower for nearly everybody. Few people have ever ridden one to its full potential on a motocross track. That is what made the class so revered.

A 450 is too much horsepower for nearly everybody as well but this is why there is a throttle on the right side of the handlebar. Smile

I have not read this whole thread, but I'll go with this. I'd rather have a 500, just for the fun of it.
