Truly sorry to hear of Monte's passing.

I had an old friend who shot a lot of 8mm footage from the old Florida races ,mainly from Sunshine in the mid 70's.

It had quite a bit of Monte doing those sick turn down whips over the jump named after him. Lots of Winter Am footage as well.

I believe Barry, who shot the footage,is still in his parents old house. I am going to drop by there and see if the reels are still around.

God bless you, MM. My condolences to his family and friends.

At the service for MM today, a bit of discussion about this photo came up with folks who were part of Monte's racing career for many years.

It is believed that this photo is of the late Tony Wynn. Monte was #241 in 1976, not #41.

And the records show that MM has one SX win on the books, which was the 500 class victory at Daytona in '76.

RIP, Monte. Thanks for the great memories.

A friend of mine sent me some pictures of Monte at his first race in 17 years. This was at Sunshine MX in St. Petersburg , Florida back in October of '09. While it is not the same track , it is on the same property of the old National track where Monte had pounded out many a lap in his glory days as one of Florida's top pro's in the '70's .

The #83 on his bike was his National number for 1977, also. He was 3rd overall on the day. Thanks to Dave Brunelle , Monte's former mechanic from the '70's, for sending the pics.

MoFu, we'll never forget !!!

I was so saddened to hear of the loss of Monte McCoy. He was a friend and a truely great motocrosser. I will always remember Sunshine Speedway and Monte's Mountain. God Speed "Mofu", rest in peace.
