Guitar stuff

Just thought I'd share... my first new guitar in over 15 years. I'm amazed by this thing. I had gone to local guitar shops now and then over the years thinking about a Les Paul or something similar. Usually when I pick one off the wall, I look it over and get disgusted. It'll have a messed up nut, rough-edged frets, or the neck won't be set straight--and a price tag of over $900.

So I took a chance and just ordered this one off the internet last week. It is absolutely flawless. I couldn't find a single blemish, anywhere. It has a great, even neck on it, is solid mahogany and was priced at $399! I threw in these Duncan '59 and JB humbuckers (with the nickels cover for looks), set it up and I just couldn't be happier. Anyone who wants a quality, solid guitar at a very reasonable price give this thing a look!

but anyway, I love my Ibanez RG321. It retailed for $325, got it on a closeout sale and sold my old guitar, ended up getting it for $130. I went looking for a new uitar several times, can't find a guitar that I like better that isn't under $700. Mahogany is a wonderful wood. I'll only replace it with a LP. Hell, I'll just keep it, won't get but about $100 for it. Same goes for my strat, I got a korean ash strat with seymour duncans, and I've played many a strats and have only found 2 that I'd take over mine, a '62 strat a the SRV replica. The only thing I don't like about my strat is the frets, they stick out over the neck a bit, you can definetely feel them if you run your hand along it, and the intonation is a bit off. But the tone is absolutely killer.

Very Nice! Looks like you are going to have some fun with that, and the nice Tube Screamer!

Oh, davis224, get a fine flat file and carefully run it along the edge of your fretboard at a slight angle to take care of those nasties. Won't hurt nothin'. And you can set your own intonation if you have a guitar tuner.

Cool guitar. Is that tube screamer an original or the reissue?

you're pretty safe with Ibanez. I've had good luck with them.

Kinda like the toyota of the guitar world.

Thats a reissue--TS-808 i think. I paid a crapload for it, but it is worth every penny.

yeah, those reissues are great sounding if you are into that sort of tone. I found a mod online that I purchased. Once I soldered it in - the tone changed and sounded exactly like the original 808. Worked out to be about the same price as just buying the reissue, but they didnt have that when I got mine.

I've partly abandoned that petal and started using Fulltone products almost exclusively for studio playing. Just fantastic tone. Check them out if you get a chance.

The old Fat Boost is what I use the most while playing live - and it is fantastic. FET circuitry can bring a clean amp like a Twin right to the edge of breaking up - with total control from the volume knob on the guitar. Works REALLY well with my Gretsch and tele - although not so well with humbucker guitars.

Are there sound clips for it?

Mostly I'm actually just using the level control on the pedal to overdrive the preamp tubes in my Marshall. But when I want a bit more gain for the hard rock or classic metal tone I do use the drive knob for that. I like it because unlike every other gain stage device I've ever used, it doesnt color the sound at all. It sounds just like my amp would if it could go to 11.
