Hell I'll jump on the "STUPID" bandwagon with ya. I was not there but when I watched the vid clip it just looked like unfortunate timing and it did not even occur to me that it might have been intentional but apperently it was cause these guys say so.

I've never been too much of a JG fan, and I am a big RV fan for the way he has approached his pro career, but I still don't see this as much more than a rock and a hard place racing incident.
You're approaching a jump in about 2nd gear. Standing at the top of the jump face is a guy next to his bike, trying to hold his bike up. He's directly in your path. You:
a. Throttle it and try to go through him.
b. Hit the brakes and try to go around him.

Your question doesn't really apply to the race in quetion, though.....

I believe it does. Show me where it falls short, and I'll adjust it appropriately.

RV wasn't standing next to his bike, he'd just fallen. For all we know, the last time that JG had seen him he'd been on the bike.
JG wasn't simply approaching a jump, from the film it looks like he was just exiting a whoop section, which had probably taken his attention a bit more than the next jump/wall had.
The speed at which this all happened is not at all reflected by the silly question.

Wow, do you have it wrong. I suggest you watch this:

Villo was indeed standing next to the bike. Grant's number plate hit Villo directly in the left arm. Now, unless Grant was sliding on his side, that wouldn't happen unless Villo was standing. Villo, in fact, didn't even fall on the dirt prior to Grant hitting him. He stood the whole time.
There was a right hand berm after the whoop section and before that wall. The riders had to not only slow for the right hander, but they also had to slow for the wall.
My situation does indeed apply. Please watch the film and straighten out your misperception of the situaition.
Friday, this thing was STEEP. He was blocking half the track. In that photo that Crash put up, his front wheel is almost in the center of the track and the space between him and the tuff block is very small once his left foot hits the ground. He is also, down. His bike is laying on its side and his elbow is on the ground. He's actually in the process of sliding back down.
That all said, I posted in the ocscottie thread that the time from when Grant sees RV is extremely small. These guys are moving at a high enough rate of speed there was no time to turn or stop without crashing himself. He did what most everyone else here would have done. Gassed it to get over the wall and hoped that RV would let go and be out of the way. Unfortunately, RV was still attached to the bike and was forcibly removed.

I correct the thing about the whoops, it was a single "whoop" before the wall.
As for standing next to the bike, that's not really accurate. I think as pointed out earlier, the perspective is the thing. He's on the side of basically a wall.
Your description certainly doesn't equate to the race situation.
Hey, are you sure you're not Nerd?
He's on both of his feet, upright, holding the bike next to him. He didn't fall down, as you first implied. They were not at some great speed where Grant wouldn't have been able to stop had he tried.
Were you on OJ's team of lawyers? Just wondering...

I agree with you APL (look out!)
He had fallen, and most fallen racers get OUT of the way, RV was laying (leaning on the wall) and sliding and didn't let go of his bike. In that small window of time - Grant (like myself) probably thought he (RV) would try and move so as not to get hit. Instead RV hung on to his bike, blocking a large portion of the track (and the entire inside line) at the risk of getting hit.. He didn't even look to see if someone else was coming (which I think someone who's blocking that amount of track probably should - if they value living)...
Guys, you really need glasses.

And he wasn't laying down.He was still standing and sliding down the hill. And look at the guy who was directly behind RV went.To the right. And then look where 2 or 3 other guys after Grant went.To the left. They all got over the "wall" and Grant has more skill than they do.There was plenty of track.I'm sure the fact that Grant was coming from a bad start and kinda amped had a lot to do with it.And I bet if we asked him now,he might say he made a bad choice but that it was in the heat of a poor start.I guess we'll never know..........or will we?Hopefully some so called "journalist" in our sport will ask a tough question and ask him if he had it to do all over again would he?Like I've said,I don't think Grant set out to hit RV and hurt him.But he wanted the fast line, and RV was standing holding his bike with both hands in the middle of it.
yep, now everyone STFU
