Everybody take a deep breath......... There are 2 problems with this lynching, the first is perspective and the second is perspective. Because the vid is being shot from above and behind it appears that Grant is grabbing a handful as he reaches RV, but what I think really happened is that it's not until he he heads up the face of the jump and the perspective changes can you accurately gauge his speed. Remember this "Wall" was located at the end of whoop section, a section that was being pinned by all the top guys all night long, not even Reed could get his momentum stopped before hitting the very same wall and that cost him the win. The second issue of perspective is the riders perspective, Could Grant in the middle of the whoops anticipate that RV was going to lunge for his bike or did RV know just how close Grant was or did he even look? I dont know how anybody can say the kind of stupid shit that Ive read on here about this "Racing incident", Grant was racing forward, RV was trying to salvage his race, Shit happens and that hardly makes Grant a sociopath. homosaystfu.

This happened on a different "wall", Nate. There was on in the middle of the whoops and then another one after the whoops after coming out of a sand turn.

Hell I'll jump on the "STUPID" bandwagon with ya. I was not there but when I watched the vid clip it just looked like unfortunate timing and it did not even occur to me that it might have been intentional but apperently it was cause these guys say so.

I wouldnt call it intentional, but it was defiently avoidable. JG had plenty of time to change his line, but Im assuming he was thinking RV was going to let go.

I am die hard honda, and am stoked for them this weekend! BUT I have NEVER been a fan of Josh Grant.... Seeing this though, and that pic of RV goin over that wall it looks like he would fall and or roll backwards if he didnt do what he did. He SHOULD have tried to go around, or hit the brakes before the thing. IDK.... call him names and saying he tried to take RV out is just too much for me.
2/25/2008 8:50am Edited Date/Time 4/16/2016 6:14pm
I think if he stops in the middle of the track (if he even could) or swerves to one side or the other, he's risking just as much as by going forward. I don't think he had "plenty of time" to think about what he was going to do at all.

I've never been too much of a JG fan, and I am a big RV fan for the way he has approached his pro career, but I still don't see this as much more than a rock and a hard place racing incident.

Good to hear RV will be OK. Hopefully Grant stopped by to check on him.But to clear up a few things I've heard said here.I always thought a "wall" was completely vertical. While this obstacle is pretty steep it is not completely vertical and if you don't think these guys could climb it even starting at a dead stop shortly in front of it, you are fooling yourselves. Or have the riding skills of Natalie and her big fake cans. <img class= " title="Laughing"> And I keep hearing that RV was already down or crashed.Doesn't look like it to me.He still seems to be standing and is connected to the bike.Sure he may fall one way or the other, but he was still upright and holding his bike. Not down. And he was not "blocking half the track". There is a good 70% or more of the track that could have been used by a professional rider who didn't think slamming into a body would be faster. As I said,I don't think Grant set out to hurt another rider.I just think as good as Grant is,he had other ,more safe options.Definitely a racing incident,I agree. But I'm sure if we were racing at Chickenlicks raceway this Sunday and I did the same thing to one of you guys(that ride),you would see it differently.

Simple answer please... "a" or "b".

You're approaching a jump in about 2nd gear. Standing at the top of the jump face is a guy next to his bike, trying to hold his bike up. He's directly in your path. You:

a. Throttle it and try to go through him.

b. Hit the brakes and try to go around him.

RV wasn't standing next to his bike, he'd just fallen. For all we know, the last time that JG had seen him he'd been on the bike.

JG wasn't simply approaching a jump, from the film it looks like he was just exiting a whoop section, which had probably taken his attention a bit more than the next jump/wall had.

The speed at which this all happened is not at all reflected by the silly question.

Wow, do you have it wrong. I suggest you watch this:

Villo was indeed standing next to the bike. Grant's number plate hit Villo directly in the left arm. Now, unless Grant was sliding on his side, that wouldn't happen unless Villo was standing. Villo, in fact, didn't even fall on the dirt prior to Grant hitting him. He stood the whole time.

There was a right hand berm after the whoop section and before that wall. The riders had to not only slow for the right hander, but they also had to slow for the wall.

My situation does indeed apply. Please watch the film and straighten out your misperception of the situaition.

Friday, this thing was STEEP. He was blocking half the track. In that photo that Crash put up, his front wheel is almost in the center of the track and the space between him and the tuff block is very small once his left foot hits the ground. He is also, down. His bike is laying on its side and his elbow is on the ground. He's actually in the process of sliding back down.

That all said, I posted in the ocscottie thread that the time from when Grant sees RV is extremely small. These guys are moving at a high enough rate of speed there was no time to turn or stop without crashing himself. He did what most everyone else here would have done. Gassed it to get over the wall and hoped that RV would let go and be out of the way. Unfortunately, RV was still attached to the bike and was forcibly removed.

I correct the thing about the whoops, it was a single "whoop" before the wall.

As for standing next to the bike, that's not really accurate. I think as pointed out earlier, the perspective is the thing. He's on the side of basically a wall.

Your description certainly doesn't equate to the race situation.

Hey, are you sure you're not Nerd?

He's on both of his feet, upright, holding the bike next to him. He didn't fall down, as you first implied. They were not at some great speed where Grant wouldn't have been able to stop had he tried.

Were you on OJ's team of lawyers? Just wondering...

I agree with you APL (look out!)

He had fallen, and most fallen racers get OUT of the way, RV was laying (leaning on the wall) and sliding and didn't let go of his bike. In that small window of time - Grant (like myself) probably thought he (RV) would try and move so as not to get hit. Instead RV hung on to his bike, blocking a large portion of the track (and the entire inside line) at the risk of getting hit.. He didn't even look to see if someone else was coming (which I think someone who's blocking that amount of track probably should - if they value living)...
2/25/2008 9:38am Edited Date/Time 4/16/2016 6:14pm
He hadn't "fallen", and he wasn't leaning on the wall. He was supporting himself by holding on to the bike. Granted, it's not a safe place to be, but he was obviously trying to keep the bike upright (and probably running...cause those 4-strokes are just so easy to start).

Guys, you really need glasses.

And he wasn't laying down.He was still standing and sliding down the hill. And look at the guy who was directly behind RV went.To the right. And then look where 2 or 3 other guys after Grant went.To the left. They all got over the "wall" and Grant has more skill than they do.There was plenty of track.I'm sure the fact that Grant was coming from a bad start and kinda amped had a lot to do with it.And I bet if we asked him now,he might say he made a bad choice but that it was in the heat of a poor start.I guess we'll never know..........or will we?Hopefully some so called "journalist" in our sport will ask a tough question and ask him if he had it to do all over again would he?Like I've said,I don't think Grant set out to hit RV and hurt him.But he wanted the fast line, and RV was standing holding his bike with both hands in the middle of it.

I blame four strokes! RV is trying to hang on to keep the clutch pulled in because he's afraid if it stalls then he'll never get it refired. In the old days you got off the track first since your smoker would always fire. Now guys try to hang on.

It still comes down to a or b. Would you throttle it and try to ride through a guy holding up his bike, or would you try to stop or ride around. I think it was a poor choice on Grant's part. Sure, he was probably amp'd up trying to make time...but he did drive through a guy standing on the track.

Everyone forgot to read or did not hear that Josh Grant was asking how Villo was after the race... If he hurt him on purpose why ask how he is?

jtomasik... Were you at the race? If not, you are not getting the full picture of just how steep that jump was. Villopoto was not standing, holding up his bike. He was laying on his side, sliding back down the face of that jump. Like FlVet said, he was probably trying to keep his hand on his clutch to keep the bike running. The video and picture does not do justice to how steep that "wall" was.
