The Leatt is not perfect, but as far as I'm concerned, it is better than nothing, and better than the other alternatives out there now. That is why the two paramedics in our household both wear them when we go riding.

Just as well you and your medic friends wear them then.

Ive been very up in the air about the Leatt...I think its the right concept but have been very skeptical about the design. Ive seen people who normally would roll out of a get off (like over the bars) in a sandwash with broken collar bones, where normally when they fell their neck and back would bend and they could roll out it. The brace prevents your neck from bending so It seems like you end up lawndarting instead. The back breaks seem to all happen at or around the T4. On the other hand though, when someone seriously crashes, like Chris Blais. It saved his life. The Drs. swear that it took the pressure off of his neck and displaced it and had he not been wearing it the outcome would have been much different. Also, one our riders, Amy (in 07 she held the #1 plate in Dist. 37 Desert, Grand Prix, Enduro's and AMA National Hare & Hounds) lawndarted 2 weekends ago and broke her back wearing while wearing the Leatt. Same thing where she was racing in a sandwash and there were bushes, but no rocks. She broke her back from her T4 down. She had a rod put in from her T4 to her T12. Thank God, she has no paralysis at all. But has a long and painful recovery ahead of her. Her mom told us that after her surgery, the Drs. said that had she not been wearing the brace she would have died. They said that the bottom of her skull had damage and had she not had the brace on that pressure would have gone to her neck. Im extremely thankful that the Leatt has saved the lives of 2 people I deeply care about. But I really look forward to them refining and improving the brace. Sue

I really prefer how the EVS looks like you can tuck your head down in the event of a crash. I think that looks safer.

I also like how the EVS is non-adjustable. You buy your correct size and you are done. It will be lighter and less expensive in part because of these changes.

I'm not buying an EVS until I can get a sweet graphic kit for it to match my custom painted Arai.

Think for a minute about why the NFL has banned spearing and football at all levels requires teaching to put the face into the numbers. It's not to protect the people being blocked and tackled.
