How often and how many gallons of oil does it take to change in that engine.

From that angle I can clearly see at least .0025" runout on the pto end. A good smack with a 1lb ball peen should do it. <img class= " title="Laughing">

It's a 2-stroke turbo-charged diesel. So i guess the answer is none...
It does say it burns 1,660 gallons of fuel oil per hour.
This is what i find very interesting.
Fuel consumption at maximum power is 0.278 lbs per hp per hour (Brake Specific Fuel Consumption). Fuel consumption at maximum economy is 0.260 lbs/hp/hour. At maximum economy the engine exceeds 50% thermal efficiency. That is, more than 50% of the energy in the fuel in converted to motion.
For comparison, most automotive and small aircraft engines have BSFC figures in the 0.40-0.60 lbs/hp/hr range and 25-30% thermal efficiency range.

Yet some would say the 2-stroke is outdated.... :D

That website and those photos have been circulating for a year or three now. I wonder if the engine is finished, and if there are any new photos of it? One would assume that to get the fuel consumption data they might already have one running but, who knows. All I've ever seen are these assembly photos.

They do single cylinder scale models & calculate it from there.

Probably more like compressed air starter.

I'd bet it's more like a couple of 500 horse gasoline engines and a fluid drive type clutch mechanism. That there's a lot of weight to get moving. If I remember correctly though, it turns very low rpm.

I'd like to see the Mill that surfaced an are that large!

When I worked for TI, they had ordered a CNC 5-axis to machine the wing strong backs for some missle they were working on and it was about 1/4 of that size. Spent a couple million on the machine and ran it around the clock for a year before they actually got 1 part that was correct.
