So you are saying Factory tires can blow out?
I can make my own tires and use them
There's no spec tire rule[/quote:2p33e3nf]
yup, no paddles though thanks to the jammer.

Not really but they aren't made to last like a tire you or I can buy. For example they may have a choice of a two or four ply tire where the one we buy is a four or even six ply. So they get more sidewall flex for better traction. With the 450s they had to go back and made the tires stiffer because they had to much flex with some of the two smoke tires..

that and the fact no one will buy their tires if they have to buy a new set every weekend.

a set of whoops?
Yes Dave, while Speedy's post was informative, J2one2 has hands on knowledge. In my opinion, without proper testing, it would be hard to prove which one knows a lot more.
I've done plenty of hands on testing. I still can't ride for squat...
seriously someone did bring up another issue. Lightweight tires. that's definitely an option for the top guys. the tires are lighter depending upon terrain and rider. in the outdoors, most of the top riders will run w/ mousse inserts. a mousse typically gives you about the same feel as a tire at about 8psi. the mousse however is much heavier than a tube. because you aren't concerned with pinch flats with mousse, but it is heavier, you can run a lighter tire to compensate for the heavier mousse. usually as someone pointed out, it's a lighter carcass with a few less plies. if you try to run one of the lighter tires without mousse however they don't perform very well and tend to really push a lot in a harder turn. tire will roll over on the rim. it's a system approach basically. one component without the others doesn't help much. and most amateur and even pro riders don't like to change mousse. Well except folks like Jeff Fredette.
supercross they still run tubes because of the feel and the weight. the tires are a bit lighter than an "OE" tire but not as much as what they might run in the outdoors. some brands are just heavier than others. like someone said, the lighter wheel/tires will provide much better suspension action and more consistency. but you can get a flat even with perfect prep (witness KW in A3). oh well.
IMHO that is.
