I remember how cool it was to PRACTICE on the track during the week. All day riding the track...

I loved hitting that gravity cavity style jump just above the first turn.

I remember rolling the hump by the tree then gassing it to clear the double jump.

I also remember riding the SX track and thinking...this sucks!

I remember practice was always slippery than snot but race time was hard pack, blue groove and kinda one lined. anyone ever take a shot at those widow maker hill climbs back in the day? after de anza closed, i use to sneak in with a buddy who lived down the street and ride the yamaha sx track. first real sx track i ever rode on...

Jesus christ Paul i thought we were over your obsessive bullshit about me, why do you think for some reason i'm making shit up on here, i have never claimed to be anything i wasn't, damn were all on here trying to have old memories, and most of you guys bash the shit out of me! some of you i don't even know! and you don't know me WTF! get a life!!!. i don't talk shit about you people don't do it to me!!!.
Sorry Charlie, sometimes i get carried away when i read some of the crazy stories, and somewhat distorted memories, peaple have.... But never fear Charlie,, im on your side believe it or not... When i came on here, as you recall.. Peaple had me confused for a guy who couldnt get out of his own way..... Kill em with facts,, I always say!! I mean common bud.. Look at the page that has NMA top 10... It clearly says im the guy.... And i still get grief.. So dont trip Charlie O Pal... I feel ya!!!!!!! Its human nature to try and bash the number one guy.... We should start are own thread .... and call it? Well im not sure what to call it.... Ill leave that up to you and the fine peaple who visit this site... Then me and you can really stick it to em!!! Lets take this game to a whole new level Chuck.... Im telling you,, Its time... Its our time!!!!!!!!!!!! WFO'

Man I wish I was able to ride this place when it was open. I did however get to ride it on a regular basis in the late 90's. Me and a few buddies used to ride off of Gilman Springs all the time and a few times ended up a ways back into the "badlands" off to the left of the 60 once you start heading towards Beaumont. One day we cross a creek and climb a hill and all of the sudden we are right next to the old snack stand and hill climb. At that point we did'nt realize we had actually ridden right into De Anza even though it was kind of in the back of all of our minds when we left the truck that day. That infamous 60 fwy sign taunted me all the time so we were always looking for it.
Anyways we rode that place for a good 3 weeks by riding over to it and then decided to just drive up Ironwood and try to go via the dump route. Ends up the fence was off the hinges and we were able to drive right into the place and park next to the old Yamaha test track which was still in actually pretty good shape. After about two months of that they wised up and started putting piles of dirt in the middle of the access roads, bummer. But at least I have the memories of getting to ride this place by myself with just a few buddies for a good amount of time.

Yes I know I was trespassing but come on, they are never going to open the area back up and I HAD to do it Smile The Moto Gods made me do it.

I raced there in 71. I was 6 years old, racing a JT-1 Yamaha. They didn't want me to ride because they said I was too young for the class. My dad talked them into it. I pulled the holeshot and led the first lap until I overshot a jump and went over the side of the track. I wanted to get back up and ride, but the bars were bent into the side of the tank. My first and last time I remember racing there.

Don't know if I ever raced there, but we rode practice a lot there from the late 80's through the early 90's. That place was a blast and I loved that small track on the top of the hill, I could rip around on my KX80 and stuff guy's on full size bikes!! My Pops always told me that I was gonna get it someday...but it never happend!! Hahaha...I really miss that place along with so many others.

I recently came across a late 60's or early 70's program from a Hill Climb event at DeAnza!

I can't believe it, but I have known Rick for only 2 yrs. now, we bought his '06 rm250 from him, that was before I knew of this thread being so much about him! Reason is, I told my son about this track, and tried to go find it, dump wouldn't let me in, and came across this thread again. What a trip!

By the mid 80's there were some fun technical tracks close to highway 60.

De Anza was my home track back in the 80s.From 80cc to 250cc i always went up against Tommy Combs. My mom was a score keeper and my dad started races. The michetes use to run it back then. I miss the good tracks. Wed Ascot, Thur OCIR, Fri Corona Raceway, Sat Saddleback and Sunday De Anza. Did i ever race against you?

I looped out off the start in the first moto.
Was it still the rubber band start?

I raced at DeAnza in 1978 - 79 riding 250 expert.
That canyon baked in the summer, but the track was well designed, I loved catching big air at the top of the uphill
