I've been on ktm 250 2 strokes the past few years so never had to worry about adjusting clutch play. I just got a new yz250 and I've clocked 8 hours on it. I am completely out of adjustment on the perch. I know the cable has another adjusting point. Mxa suggests heavy duty springs, is this something most people do? I'm an aggressive b rider, 6'1 190 lbs, not a clutch abuser but I do use it. I don't want to burn the clutch out within 20 hours so looking to see what other people are running. I looked into springs once, they had cheap ones like the tusk brand and then the Hinson ones. I've had good luck with tusk products but hard to beat Hinson in the clutch department especially being that they are only 40$. What is everyone running? Not looking for a complete clutch kit either.
Thanks
Also how often do most of you get out of plates or even a basket? My 13 ktm had over 150 hours on it and never even took off the clutch cover. I know I'm not doing that with this bike

I've found that changing the oil frequently (~2 hours for me) greatly extends clutch life in my 250s.
OEM plates & springs, Pro-X basket, OEM cable, Works Connection perch. It's all been flawless for me, but I'm not hard on clutches.
Also noticed my shock is leaking a little oil down the shaft, my suspension guy said it would be fine for now just as long as it's not spewing oil like crazy so I guess I'm getting springs and a revalve earlier then I planned. I know I'm a little heavy for the stock springs but the suspension does not feel to soft for me. It actually feels pretty dam good with just a few clicker adjustments.

When I got on the YZ250 really used the clutch a lot more and on almost every corner to try and modulate the power. I would typically flick the clutch on most corners to stop spin or lift up the revs.
I never or rarely had to adjust the clutch, but I did find that after 9 months of riding every weekend, I started to notice a little slipping. I switch to new springs (may have also swapped plates) and was surprised that I got a lot more bite.
Adjust the cable at the in-line adjuster and set the free play before your moto. If you're having to turn the adjuster more than a couple of turns during a race, you may need to look at the oil type, service interval or HD springs or your riding habits.
Heat build up during 30 consecutive starts would fry almost any clutch. Take a break at least every 3 starts and spin a lap to allow time to cool down.
