Whatever means necessary need to be used to stop the deliberate attempt to murder as many civilians as possible.

Nothing off the table. Sorry, but that's where we are. And for those doubting the ability of ordinary citizens to do extraordinary things...it will be ugly. It will happen if governments fail to protect you.
Maybe threaten the death of thousands of homeless dogs and cats as a result of radiation leaking from a JihadiJoe attack. That may shame them into action.

How much damage could a suicide bomber do to a nuclear plant? Not much.
They are much more interested in causing fear/panic and interrupting 'normal proceedings'.
Biological would be the biggest worry but it doesn't have the same shock value

A chain link fence and a few security guards...ISIS have PHD'S on board. Not worried about a shit bag blowing himself up. A team of brilliant scientists, computer programmers, logistics experts, shit get real

We need more nuclear in this country...

They wanted to put one in Utah...and all the environmentalists freaked out, so it didn't happen.

Close enough to have a huge stash of iodine pills.

I thought Target was getting into the nuclear plant business. I was thinking, is Wal-Mart next?

Haha, home generators are so last year . The new thing is a portable back up nuclear power plant.

I won't be surprised when we see either a biological attack or a dirty bomb used.
Biological weapons have a few things going for them. They are cheap, relatively easy to produce, have multiple ways they can be dispersed and don't necessarily have immediate action. They would cause a great fear among the public which is what these people are after.
A dirty bomb, it's not hard to fathom that somewhere in the world of ISIS, someone has enough nuclear material that they can put it inside a bomb and set it off in a densely populated area. It does not take much material to be dispersed and carried by wind. There was a movie made by BBC simply called "Dirty Bomb", it was shown to us during an advanced CBRN course and clearly shows how worried we should be.

I have live agent bio and nuclear weapons training, dealing with detection, cas evac, contaminated casualty care etc. In part of that training, we see where our test material is manufactured for our biological phase and it is pretty simple stuff.
Most of our scenarios were dealing with terrorism on home soil, there is a reason for that.

I am not paranoid at all but i did by a 4 pack of gas masks not that long ago. I looked at it like this, if a virus, terrorist act or even fallout from a possible asteroid does become an issue we will have some, if not they will be in the attic for my grandkids or hopefully never be used. Right now you can get 4 for under $100 and there are thousands on Ebay but the very minute one of these incidents occurs there will be none. Zombie apocalypse.

What are the masks good for and what kind of filter system do they use? When I was in the military we had different types of filters based on what kind of agent we needed protection from. Also the filters had expiration dates. I still have a couple of the old style masks.

Do you also have chemical suits to match the masks?

I honestly don't have a clue if they are suitable for any of those situations i mentioned. Yes the cannisters do expire but i just felt something is better than nothing. I see the basic suits for real cheap as well. Maybe they will be useless but for the price i figured, why not.

Distance. Get in your car and drive away from the attack.

The "moderate rebels" already used them on civilians back in 2012

Good idea. I am buying some for my people at home. Not sure what to do about Coco .

The currently used filters (we use the same as the U.S.) are good for pretty much anything. Obviously, not every form of radiation can be stopped, and you're limited to time in the environment... If you can't get out of the area fast enough, you're just extending the suffering.

Unless you have a LOT of gear to use once you contaminate what you're wearing, plus a proper place to decontaminate, a clean area to live in etc etc it's almost pointless unless you have a good escape plan to get out of the area... It takes a lot of kit to do it right.
