So, while working at a rather fun dealership, I get the opportunity so purchase a few nice gems. We had a customer come through who wanted to trade a 2004 KX 250 which automatically had my ears perked up. A 2004 KX 250 was the last two stroke I owned (I was 15 at the time) in 2004 so I was pretty pumped. $400 later, this is what came through.

I was super pumped! The bike, in pretty bad shape but fired up second kick. I immediately thought to cut the front fender, sticker it up, throw 69 on the plates, and just ride the hell out of it for our last ride of the year at my buddies track. Though, I brought my 2013 KX450 with me just in case. Hell, why not. Right?

My original plan was to restore the bike as it was, a 2004, with the Chevy Trucks graphics. Yesterday, a friend called in need of some money and is wanting to sell me his 2006 KX250F which is blown up. For another $400 (that I was not planning on) I now have the opportunity to build a 250AF.

So, overall, pretty jacked and am putting my 2014 KX450 build on hold to build this KX250. Any tips on converting would be awesome!

Tell me about your frame conversion. Did you cut the frame?

I find most guys that love the conversions are not that great of riders. I think you will have a better performing bike by keeping it as it was and rebuild it but hey that's just me. The AF conversions I have ridden have all been quirky including a gen 2 aj built 500. Either way good luck! I finally got a new 13 Kawi 250f and am whole again!

I actaully have done this exact conversion. I had a lot of fun doing it at I race it in enduros harescrambles and some motocross. It is 10 times better than the old steel fram if your interested I have all the pics from my conversion and can give you quite a few tips. Another place to check out is kxriders.com

I think your two statements about AF conversions are somewhat related. I am local B level and really enjoy mine. I had it tested by other A and B riders and they all loved it. It's all in the set up. I still have a bunch of work to do on the suspension, as the stock set up doesn't react well to the new engine. But handling wise, the bike is just as good as the 250F it once was.

JG463 I just sent you an email. Get a hold of me when ever. Sheriff245 I agree with you once you get the suspension done right it is an awesome bike to race. In my opinion I think it handles better than the steel frame.

Did not to mean to sound Dickish there. Just meant alot of fast guys are more finicky with their setups and have a hard time riding a fab bike over a nice new unmodified eom model. I still think there is a place for the conversions. Just giving my opinion as I loved the steel frame kiwis from 2003-5.
