Alessi's injury a good thing?

Edited Date/Time 1/22/2012 2:24pm
Just catching up on some SX training videos, and the Mike Alessi vid at RacerX got me thinking... could Alessi getting hurt have been the best thing for him?

Of course I don't want to see a rider crash, but since Mike has had little prep time before the SX season it may relay into no expectations or pressure come time for A1 (if he gets to ride). No expectations or pressure, from himself or others, is something Mike has probably never experienced in his professional career. He just might be allowed to go out, ride, have fun, and see where he stacks up. I've seen the "just go out and see how I do" attitude work extremely well for many, and it may just be what Alessi needs to get some good SX experience and put up some impressive results. Riding loose means riding fast...

C'mon race season!

But the "go out there and have fun Mikey" is a pretty impressive #800 Wink

The best thing MA 800 could do is sit out the SX season, he's got more chance winning the outdoors than he has finishing the SX season without injury.

I wouldn't wish an injury on anyone but SX isn't his thing IMHO

He just needs to settle into a comfortable groove in SX and not push WFO like he can and does outdoors. Gotta hand it to the kid he wants it bad.

I agree with bogdan...if he rides within his comfort level I believe he'll do just fine and will not risk a huge injury before the outdoors...It would 100% suck if he doesn't make the outdoors.

I'd rather be ready than have no expectations put on me.

If Mike can keep himself under control out there he will do well. He has always looked really ragged in SX, but he's got as much heart and guts as any of them.

SX might not be his thing, but the only way to learn it is to race it. Racing it with the expectation to run up front with the best in the world is a tough feat, often leading to big crashes and injury.

Remember, at one point people said the outdoors weren't McGrath's thing... then he won a title. Maybe some day Alessi can accomplish the same feat in SX.

Mikey doesnt wanna go out there and have fun, Mikey wants to win. Lack of preparation time will only aggravate him. If youve ever been around him in person, you understand what I mean - the guy is dead serious about racing.

I am going to go with GuyB-- getting landed on multiple itmes, or shattering your lower leg is never good. But every cloud has a silver lining.

I say he should just go and get every holeshot and then go form there.

MA would have won if JBS had got injured

Let me re-phrase since everyone seems to be taking it wrong...

Could it possibly be a benefit that Mike Alessi is able to come into the season without a lot of pressure or expectations?

I think Mike pressures himself, that kid wants it bad.

If Ricky Carmichael got hurt enough, Kevin Windham would be the GOAT.
