With your logic, yes it was self defense. Friese hit him with his motorcycle, which in a court of law would be considered assault with a deadly weapon.

And the AMA is at fault here. If they had done their jobs a long time ago when it comes to Friese, last nights incident probably would never have happened.
There is little chance it could be proved that Friese intentionally hit WP, whereas it can be proved that WP intentionally hit Friese.

Assault??? Are you kidding me!? Nobody who has ever competed in sport even thinks that. Inappropriate, yes. I get the punishment, but I can see how the frustration built up for Peick. What he did was far less risky than getting on the bike and taking Friese out though.

I wonder if Peick's hands were hurting after that. It looked like he landed some good jabs there!

The second line of what you typed is the major err here, IMO.

Also, if I read another person type either "Peick puched...assault...blah blah.." or "...(assault)..." then I'm going to....well, probably just complain on Vital more about that being such an exaggerated statement.

If that's truly assault, and you genuinely - as a fan of sx and mx - feel that way, then this may not be your lane. I understand why someone might make the statement as it relates to trying to overtly prove a point about WP being in the wrong (which is, to an extent, undeniable). That being said, if you honestly think that was assault, which is an offense worthy of criminal prosecution...please. He hit a dude that had a helmet on, if Friese was so terribly injured from said assault, he wouldn't have raced anymore. Let's all just try really hard to be reasonable...I know that's a huge thing to ask for sometimes, but try hard - I know we can do it...maybe..

It was assault. When you punch another person and it's not self defense, it IS assault. Whether it was assault or not does not depend on the injuries incurred, that would only play into what extent the prosecutor could charge. Both players and coaches have been criminally charged for assault on the playing field, Peick is not exempt because it is a sporting event.
Ok then by your definition of assault Freise committed assault with a deadly weapon twice when he Intentionally used his motorcycle to "assault" peick.

That sounds rediculous doesn't it???

Not saying Peicks retaliation was the right thing to do, but I'd be willing to bet there have been lots ove people who wanted to do what Peick did over the years... Bummer he lost his cool, but everyone has a boiling point...

And to say that Friese is an "aggressive" rider, may be a stretch. To me, an "aggressive rider" makes passes happen in tight situations. Contact is cool, and so is taking someone's wheel.

But when you take yourself out in the process, or off someone from cross jumping them, I call that being a "jackass", which is exactly what Freise is.... A "jackass"..

For all the stupid shit Friese has done over the years he deserves much worse than what he got. It's a joke that the AMA or MX sports haven't stepped in yet.

WP looked like the Bengals of SX. He should have picked up his bike and raced. He would likely have made the main and be racing next week. Mentally weak.

Just my opinion, people act like he beat him down, he hit him with his hands in the helmet, and friese rode off, lol. Point being , friese isnt a fighter and neither is peick.

This.

Peick's probably a great guy, but he made a serious tactical error by reacting as he did. Now he's gonna have zero points going into round three. He stopped being a professional the moment he forgot about his bike and went after Vince.

The irony is that by NOT fighting back, Friese demonstrated the appropriate professional response. And by making the correct tactical decision, he was able to keep racing. Too bad for him he threw away his qualifying spot in the LCQ.

But there's also no doubt that the refs have him under a microscope now, as he should be.

It was the fight or flight response. Freise got punked out, pushed down, and chose flight. While I'm not condoning Peick's actions, given the circumstance, I can understand why he did it.

What I don't understand is, those guys should already know who Friese is? If you enter his game you will get bitten. Why not do like k-dub on the us open? Take him out and problem solved.

Exactly. I have a different view of what it is to be a man than a lot folks here on vital.
To be fair though, maybe some are just enjoying the WP meltdown rather than really condoning the behavior.
And I'm a little bitter, tried to root for the Bengals and they deliver the most pathetic loss I've seen from the NFL.

You take a guy whos known for being an idiot on the track and combine that with someone who has been know to kick a bike over in the pits and don't give a fugg...and that's what you get.

Coach Gibs needs to hand his own penalty down on Peick. Very unprofessional! Time to throw Weston on the bench and let Nicoletti in for a few races.

That Fly gear looked great while Weston was laying down punches to the back of some dudes head....great brand
exposure.

Peick shoulda just assaulted him via bike to bike contact. Maybe he woulda just got DQ and could of raced next week.
1/10/2016 5:34pm
The penalty seems a little harsh to me. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't RV get fined $2k or so for looping his bike into J-Law and the resulting fight?

Doesn't seem much different to me - someone reacting to another rider (with a history of being a dick) and getting fined for it.

I think the only penalty (apart from the fines) was getting last gate pick or something.

Yeah. That's what I thought, too. If I were JGR management, I would not have been too happy about seeing Peick pummeling another rider in the middle of the track and in front of the media. Not the kind of advertising you want for your company.

FLY and JGR got TV exposure.

Maybe those idiots in the stands that like the "thug lyfe" will want to go out and buy FLY racewear and ride a Yamaha.

There's no such thing as bad publicity?

He should have waited for him in the alley out behind the stadium.
