So we ditched cable and got a Roku (internet TV) and now I'm trying to figure out if I can watch live events with my Roku. Does anyone know the answer?

Not that I have been able to find. I have thought long and hard about dumping my cable ($120+ a month) but havent yet. I searched and the best thing I could find would be to wait for them to show up on youtube a few days later. But that is super hard for me because I constantly check twitter and I would see who won.

Supercross and Football have kept me locked into cable so far.

Once supercross and the outdoors are available on the Roku or AppleTV, I will make the switch and just watch the football games not on standard tv channels at my families house.

I absolutely love my Roku and use it every day but nothing on Roku is live. a lot of stuff is next day or a few days later on Hulu or pages like that but nothing is live. I don't have cable either and either go to a friends house or watch You-tube videos.

I wish each channel was available to purchase separately on Roku or AppleTV.

That way you could watch live but the channel would still get its share.

Is roku free? You just pay one time for the device?

I have ROKU as well and have not missed race yet, download Justin.tv and about 10 minutes before the gate drop you can find it, Since it is internet TV you can also find it at other sites. OC Scottie usually has links in the race thread.
We get about 12 local HD channels and now with ROKU, Netflix, hulu etc. I rarely watch a commercial.
Only issue I have is Justin.tv does not come thru in HD but you can watch the race the next day in HD on you tube.
they also have youtube for roku now download the channel and enjoy your go pro footage on the big screen.
hope this helps,
oh and yeah I paid for my Roku one time and now I only have my internet connection to pay for. Saving over $150 a month and probably a few hours a week without commercials

You can also watch the SX Live Practice shows on Roku by adding the "Livestream" channel.

One option is to watch the race using Plex media center on the Roku the next day when the race appears on torrent sites. Also I watch the race live some times using an Apple TV and Airplaying the Surf Rat or Justin.tv broadcast.

You can. I ditched cable last month and have been watching the SX races the day after they air on cable. You have to watch them via YouTube through your Roku, and your version determines how you will be able to achieve that. The new Roku 3's have the YouTube app thats available which make life easy.
If you have any older Roku, you'll have to use the Plex media server app utilizing the YouTube channel feature. Its honestly not the most streamlined way to watch YouTube content on the older Roku's, but the only way I know of at this time.

working on getting my girl up to speed on my roku so we can ditch cable.

fucking detest time warner.

i'll look into justin.tv for the race coverage.

between netflix, hulu, and aereo (cloud antenna w/ 20 hr dvr for 8/month) i think that cutting cable is going to almost completely painless.

i'm well up on torrents and don't anticipate missing anything at all besides general espn live.

can't wait to chop the cord and save at least 1.2k a year. fuck TWC.

If you're anywhere close to a major city, you can hook up to one of those old style roof antennae's,
like they had back in the 60s and 70s.
Hang one, you can get them at Lowes, in a room or closet you don't use so much from the ceiling,
on a rod you can turn.
Run a coaxial cable to the back of a flatscreen, where you would cable tv.
There's a setting or 2 you have to change, I think mine went from satellite to cable, maybe it went
to network air, something like that.
Run a scan and you should pick up 3 or 4 major channels.
Look to get the strongest signal by turning the antennae and watching how many come in, and how clear.
I'm on a high ridge, between Pittsburgh and Baltimore, and pull both.
ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, the local station out of Clarksberg, Public Television from both cities
and 2 or 3 offbeat stations from Ohio.

For free.

But, no cable. No History Channel, or Discovery, or any of the newer MAVTV stuff.

Every now and then, I'll buy the motogp or MXDN stream online, but really, if SMURF or any of the
other pirates don't deliver on Sat. night, it's just wait till Sunday and utube.

It's been almost 2 years since this was last discussed, but is there anyway to watch SX live, not the next day on a ROKU? I have livestream on it, but of course this seems to be only for the pre-race crap and not the actual race? JustinTV is shut down.....

Thanks for any advice/assistance.

If you have a friend/relative with a cable subscription, you can download the Fox Sports Go app and login with their credentials there, and watch on Roku or Apple TV.

I installed Kodi / XBMC on my PC and then installed the Phoenix add on and streamed it live on Fox Sports 2.

Yes you can... On my roku I installed the NBC sports app. Scroll thru and you will see the pro motocross link. During all of the outdoors you could watch the practices there as as well as the race live but with commercials. Or wait about and hour and they will start to upload each race and then watch it all on replay and fast forward through all the commercials.

For SX, 2 options, as stated above, download fs1 app and use a friends user name and pass word from their cable to set up and log in. In my case I have a rental house with Comcast basic cable that I use for my log in. Then depending on the situation tv and internet wise, with Comcast I can log in my Comcast account on my phone or computer and watch any live tv shows. Find what you want and plug and hdmi cable into the tv from your phone or computer and it will play on you big screen. My windows phone will actually stream it wirelessly though something called mirror cast I think but I haven't tried to figured that out yet! LOL

Hope that helps.

Btw, never heard of Justin T.V.? What is that?

The only way to watch SX with a roku if you do not have cable only internet is on Livestream the same day as the race, or on your PC. I was fooled thinking I could watch it the next day, the day after the race on a roku channel, if I cut my cord, and got a roku. Not so much. It's more then that. If you want fs1or fs2, you need a cable subscription. And if you want to pay additional 40 or so a month you can get, you might as well stick to cable and save a huge headache. Bummed big time. Help anyone???????

www.offroadvideos.org has them all the next morning in full HD. I just ditch the live show and watch 'em first thing in the morning.

And honestly, if you have Roku (like me): get a buddy to give you their login credentials to Dish or Direct - authorize EVERYTHING and then they can change their login info. This will give you almost everything you could ever want for $0
