I was in a bad line that kicked my ass end up and I went ass over tea kettle. Broke my right footpeg off and knocked the wind out of me.. Good times. Damn, wish I had access to all my racing pics..

I remember a couple guys in the 85cc expert class crashing big time on that down hill. I believe it was Fisher and someone else. It was bad i remember that for sure.
There was another guy, though I think he was NESC, he took a major crash on the 2nd downhill, landed in the woods and ended up paralyzed.. He was/is from Livermore Falls Maine area. We were in the same HS together. Waterboro ME was my first 5th place trophy riding an RM50 that I had to race in the 60cc class cuz it wasnt a mini 50.. Was # 107 than, the next year I changed to my yz60 and #175

Who was the kid that had some really bad luck. One of his crashes his braces went through is cheek. I think the next year he was hit int he head with a golf club?

JP - Good to hear all is well.

Ya I use to race BMX too.

I got out of moto for a bit and switched to racing mountain bike and road bikes. The bug hit and i've been riding moto the last few years. I like to do a few NESC races if possible.

When the warmth comes back let me know, I'll make the trek up from CT and ride with you.

How many NEMA vets here have kids that want nothing to do with dirt bikes? lol I have 3 kids that are highly involved with team sports and no time to ride.

I really think that we need to get a ride day for Ex NEMA guys this summer! Maybe do something at one of Tonys tracks or Wareham or rent out Southwick for a day!

This could be something really cool. Im not big on high school reunions but I would go to a NEMA reunion!

I have one 12 year old son that WANTS NOTHING to do with moto. He is a competitive rockclimber/ bolder and has had a moto since he was 5... and has ridden a total of 4 times I think..... Sad

Two boys here... Me and my parents tried to get them racing at a young age. Same thing wanted nothing to do with it. Soccer and baseball. Now at 19 and 21 they want bikes. My response... You both work buy one... lol
I would do a reunion all day long. Did not go to any HS ones but would do a NEMA one any day of the week. Count me in. I would be glad to help in any way possible if it ever happens.

LOL! I have two kids 6 and 2. My 6 yr old rides but not sure if he'll want to race. Hes into soccer, basketball, bicycles, karate so it doesn't leave a lot of time to race.

A NEMA ride day, that works for me!

That is to funny!!! You will have to get Mike there as well. Last time i saw him he was racing quads at one of the civic centers while i was traveling around doing Mud Drags...

It seems like quite a few guys have gone the J-Day route. Thinking i may have to give that a try this year as well. 30min. races seems like a long time though. I like the thoughts of double & triple jumps more than the thought of whistling threw the trees just wide enough for your bars to fit threw though.

The Jdays are epic man! There are only a few races a year that the woods sections are super tight. YEs, we will get rocks and trees. But the Jday crew does an amazing job of making the sections have great passing and wide enough to rip! And the moto sections are always areas that I can make up time (at least last year in the B class, not sure about next year those A dudes are FAST!!!! ). Try a Jday man, you will NOT regret it!

OK, I will take the NEMA reunion by the horns (or bars), brappp

I live in New York, so chances are I am the furthest south, so I guess the track needs to be a bit North of me. Lets get a poll going here....what would the best track be to have this gig at, location based?

Obviously we need to come up with a weekend and then see if the track is available.

I will add these to the list.... anyone have any others that would be better or what is your vote out of these?

2. Jolly Rogers
3. Rocky Hill
4. Wareham

I think a deciding factor should be what location has the best Trauma center near by! I heard the old Brookfield track is running? Check out MX 8.

This should be open to even Ex NEMA riders that do not ride anymore. Like a big picnic with some riding thrown in for those that are willing to. I believe NESC did one but with no riding and was held at a function hall.

Agreed! I think I would love to do a ride day/ picnic maybe a 2 day event with camping?

I have old NEMA posters, and trophies and stuff. It would be great to see what everyone has. I thought about doing this at a Jday event last year, but didn't get it done.

We always went to the races the day before and camped out. All the parents sitting around the camp fire at night while us kids hung out. The day before was just as good as the race day at times. Was one big happy family there. To be stress free living in those days again as a kid would be priceless. Never knew how good we had it...

The old Brookfield track is running, I went there twice this year. Its called MX23 now. The do not have a website but you can look them up on Facebook MX Twenty Three.

We should throw Crow Hill Mx in the mix, great track!

Those were great times.. I remember riding BMX bikes Saturday evenings on the Southwick track with a bunch of friends. We would jump into "The Hole" before the finish straight... and have a hell of a time trying to peddle up the other side... lol

I think what ever track we have a get together at, it should be at a track we ran back in the day... Seems like that would narrow it down to Southwick, Middleboro, and Claverack as far as the ones we ran late 70's to 1980 time period.... I'm currently a Life Member at the Central Cycle Club (Central Village), but back then we couldn't run there if we were under 16 I believe.

claverack races where the best! still very old school. I can check with Bob Brew (popeye). He's still very active with the track. He comes in the shop 2 to 3 times a year for donations.

I'm not riding anymore, but if there's a reunion I'll definitely go. Reading all these comments really take me back. NEMA in the 80's was such a great time. Before I got hurt and had to stop racing I did pretty well- but when I first started racing I remember watching J.P.L., Numac, Shiek, Beach, Larusso, Conrad among others in pure amazement.

So many great memories. Camping, father's getting drunk the night before the races, always being pissed the EMS was late getting to the track, heckling Popeye at Claverack, two day races with sat. night bbq at the track in Maine. The list goes on...

I'll start looking at dates and see if I can come up with a few that we can pick from. Once we have a date we can then decide on a track! I am still hoping we can pull off a 2 day, if that is cool with everyone?

I just sat with Bob Brew the Claverack owner. He would need to know how many people, date etc... I not sure he fully understood what we are trying to do. I think if it was low key he would set up a track day, but if it became a really big deal I think its going to scare him away.
