I just got a new ktm 250sx... i don’t have a manual because weeellllll, it just doesn't exist. I only have a manual owners that i do not trust that much. Here is my dilemma... My manual says 0.8L oil capacity, then I took the old oil out and it came out close to 0.7L / 700cc. I went online for advise and there is lack of info to the transmission oil capacity for this bike. Then I found some comments that differ from 700cc to even 900cc. So I am not sure the amount to put on it. If anyone knows amount of oil capacity on a 2013 250sx, please help. Thanks.... Braaap

Why don't you trust the manual? It's a genuine KTM standard issue, is it not?

Did you just get the bike brand new?

It's alot easier for these two things to have happened before a manual misprint.. I'd hope

-whomever set the bike up at the factory/dealer filled it short with only that 0.7L.. things like that ie. way too much tire psi, too much/little brake fluid etc slide unfortunately.

Or

-being filled the first time, the oil soaked throughly coatig everything leaving a fine film? Accountable for 0.1L? Possible i suppose..

Just a few ideas, sorry I don't have an exact answer. Call the dealer in the morning and ask to be certain.

Every dirt bike I have ever had required 1L or 1qt, unless you just want to be ultra critical, there actually a little les.

thanks Diesel. You are right about using the manual and yes, I got the bike brand new 2 weeks ago. First time ever with a KTM though Unsure It is not that I don't trust the manual. It is that sometimes factories will provide instructions/measurements that are not the best for everyone. Example... the amount of mixture in the gas tank is recommended at 60:1. but then, the KTM mechanics adv you to run 40:1 first for a couple of tanks and then 50:1 after that. On my yamaha, manual recommended 32:1 and I always used 50:1 and it run awesome for many years. You see, even though manuals recommend something, we, racers and weekend worriers, sometimes run something slightly different for better performance. That's all

Hi,I just picked up a 2013 250sx yesterday and have the manual with it,It says for 250sx gear oil 0.80l or (o.85qt) recommends Motorex Top Speed 4T,Tighten the drain plug to 20Nm or (14.8 lbf ft) Really the best way to check if its full it to remove the screw next to the power valve springs and fill til it just trickles out of the opening.Hope that helps.

You put the bike on a level surface, take the bolt out beside "OIL LEVEL" the one with the cooper washer. fill until oil comes out, screw back in. done.

Run red power valve spring. NECJ suzuki needle, 175 main, 42 pilot. 40:1. Let her rip.

What oils is everyone using in their 250 sx's? I use the top speed 15w50 but I find it breaks downs pretty quick, especially in my son's 65. I currently change it out after approximately 3 hours.
would a semi synthetic oil be good to use?

Just realised the original post is almost 3 years old ......oh well.
