I would buy either the Honda CRF 50 or the TTR 50. I have owned the Honda and the PW and the Honda is a little bigger so he can grow into it if he is a little small. Yamaha is electric start I believe.

Greatest motorcycle ever made.

Been there, done that.

When my son turned 3, I bought him a Suzuki LT50A quad. Well before he was 5, he'd maxed it out, and I'd already had it bored/ported. I looked into a real performance kids quad, and Cobra was just introducing one- for $8,000. I ended up picking up a 02 KTM Pro Jr for under $1500, it offered loads of performance for minimal cash outlay. Today he's having a great time on a RM65, with an 85 in his future.

When my daughter is riding her bicycle without training wheels, I'll put her on a PW50 or JR50. Less cost, much less weight to squish her when she does crash, easier to transport, etc.

Great shots, ^ that's what it's about. I started my son on a ktm 50 when he was around 4. He adapted just fine and that's coming from a waaay to concerned dad.

Get him the bike. Half the price and twice the fun. And a hell of lot safer.

Which one would you rather see land on him?

It'll happen, pick the lighter smaller version.

I told my boys that when they learned to ride a bike, they could have a motorcycle. CRF 50 is the best bike ever made!

Thats what i mean by safer. The bike ways about 70 lbs, the quad about 200. Gonna hurt a hell of lot less with the bike.

Get a TTR-50--It has electric start.

The TTR50 and CRF50 are a whole lot bigger than the JR50 and PW50. Taller, and over 20lbs heavier. Doesn't seem like much to an adult, but if the kid only weighs 50lbs, that's a huge step, about like a XR650 to a CRF250 to a 200lb man.

many people think the quad is safer, but just the opposite.
Just because a kid can get on it and go, with minimal balance, does't make it safe. It's not. They have little or no suspension and will tip at one point and squish the kid.
Get the bike.
