I own a 2013 KX250f (worth about $5000aud)
Do I sell the 250f and buy a 2005+ KX250 ($3000 aud) and throw $2000 at it, or should I take the plunge and keep the 250f and buy a KX250 and do an af conversion? I want your input and thoughts. Whether I buy a 2 stroke and spend the difference on making it better or doing the conversion and potentially spending more! I wont be selling the motorcycle as I'll want to keep it for ever. It'll be a sentimental piece.

Note: All work will be done myself apart from any welding.

I would sell the 250f and buy the kx250. If you get one in good shape you can have real awesome bike after the $2k

I would do the conversion. One thing to keep in mind. Kx 250 is a discontinued bike. Getting more and more difficult to order parts. If chassis is a kxf, then parts availability will be there. There should always be motor parts available for purchase. Plus the kxf is a newer chassis, better suspension etc. The bike will also be totally one off.

I think the thing that nags me the most is the fact that I'll need 2K into the KX just to get the suspension upto KXF standard. There are complete engines on eBay for $1000 and I think welding and any other specialised labour and parts will cost me about a $1000 so I think the conversion can cost $1000. Plus I can probably sell the engine and the other components anyway. Does anyone know what year was the best KX 250 engine
