What was your take?
The PA covering Portal 25 was loud according to my friends. I run with ear plugs so was okay. I was hanging out with the crew from the Slovenian company (ML512 you met them after the race) that has developed the nex gen 2 M Max test for the FIM and these guys are experts in their field. The CEO said what he noticed what the announcer starting off loudly then tapering down his volume. The spike at the beginning is called impulse noise. I learned that the same db level of impulse noise if it is preceded by a lower db sound input isn't as harmful as BAM a loud db level of impulse noise then diminishing db level. Maybe it is akin to lifting something. You gradually pick something versus a quick yank and possibly pulling a muscle?
I had friends over by Portal 1 and their PA wasn't working so they had the other extreme.
Feld is on top of sound testing one thousand percent for the bikes and I have always commended them for it. Now that this is handled I would like to see Feld get some data on what the db levels are like at a SX and how many impulse strikes and at what db level there are over the course of an evening. To be clear doesn't have anything to do with the existing motorcycle sound levels.
I am fine with where AMA and FIM sound levels are in 2015 but given Feld has OHSA concerns think they now should look at these other noise sources to protect their employees from hearing damage and to prevent OSHA complaints resulting from these other noise sources not to mention taking care of the fans' hearing.

I wonder if they were blasting the PA System on the West side (Portals 18-26) to make up for the PA being out on the East side (portals 1-11)

Before I even clicked to read this I knew you'd be whining about something.
The signal to noise ratio of your whining is astronomical. Which leads to it all being interpreted as noise.
This is not a forum for your personal sounds, safety, etc agendas.
Use your personal email account and send some mail to people that might care rather than constantly blathering on public forums.
I cant wait to see what will be next. Maybe whining about a loud spectator? Or water being too cold to wash your hands in the mens room?

Here is the thread
As to the PA...seriously, who cares? I've never been to a race anywhere anytime that it was good. At best it's always like trying to understand the guy who's reading your order back at the drive thru. Next thing you'll tell me is the beer and food were overpriced?
Regarding your question who cares, from this thread it appears people paying for tickets care a lot about the PA. I don't buy beer or food at the races so I won't be posting about price of refreshments.
BTW the moran I called out was me as I was the person who made the post I referenced. Try to keep up okay. :-)
i could hear the techno pumping all fucking night though, so props on that blonde working the turn-tables. oh and that chick that did the national anthem on the guitar, props sweetheart. that felt really really genuine.
Bro...I know
My main point was going to races nowadays is a pain.
Tickets are expensive. Parking is atrocious. No matter what time of year it seems to be 110 degrees. Food is expensive. PA systems suck. etc. etc.
And yet they are so awesome. I was at the Utah national and so excited to just take it all in. I was blown away by all the negative comments after the race. "Tracks too flat can't see anything. Dirt sucks. Pavement was too hot in pit area, etc."
I just thought yeah...that's all true and it was still AWESOME.
Rock, you're as big a cheerleader here as anyone for "positive posts". Let's stick to it! I don't know what the next race you go to will be but I want to prepare you right now... the PA system will suck...they always do.
Pit Row
Everyone is different but personally I don't accept and can't accept "the PA system will suck....they always do." To me that's a quitter's attitude or at best looking at the situation negatively and that's just not how I roll. More importantly if we want the sport to grow we should focus on the things we can impact like the PA. This isn't rocket science. One of my best friends works for a sound engineering company for Denver (for over 20 years) and they deal with these types of applications all over the world.
Feld spends a lot of money to have sound testing at every SX and I will be surprised if they aren't already looking at what they can do to improve things PA wise. They didn't get to be a billion dollar plus company by not paying attention to the details. Something like this is both a personal safety issue as well as personal enjoyment and given the fact we're inside a stadium for 3 to 4 hours this is not an issue to just sweep under the carpet IMHO.
