The 450 numbers make sense. Grant running the closest # he could get to 33 and everyone else running their normal 3 digit (besides Pourcel). The MX2 numbers are extremely weird though.. surely those were assigned and they didn't pick them?

Nope. Someone was putting out PR's that all of team USA were doing the USGP but JGR and Martin quickly said they were not racing.

It doesn't really make sense to me that you can't run a number in MX1 because an MX2 rider has it. It seems weird. Who runs 377 in GP's?

No Savatgy either he is having hand surgery. And for the Yamaha riders it came from a source from Yamaha so we felt it was good. Sorry.

Fair enough. Still seems silly, he's an MX2 rider and he won't be at Glen Helen

The number system is a thing from the past. I think it's a good thing though. The riders make a name for themselfs and their sponsors use their numbers to "brand" them. Just like JS7, crtwotwo. What if a rider in the 250 class accidentally have the same initials as one of the big shots in the sport and pick the same number and catch a ride of the promotion. I like the way it is. Makes it a lot simpler. There's plenty of numbers in the world to go for everyone.

MX2 numbers were more than likely picked by the riders themselves.

McElrath's amateur number was 70 and Nelson ran 79 at Loretta's his final year there. I'm not sure about Savatgy and Alldredge but the other two have history with their respective numbers.

Actually, I'd heard that Josh tried to get 86 (his old amateur number), but that it was already taken.

Pourcel about USGP

http://twmx.co/KAUJKb

Not sure about the track comments,I've been to Glen Helen for AMA and GP and the track is much the same,Idon't see why it should be different because its a GP,unless that's not what he meant

Good to see a bit of a buzz about the race, maybe it will encourage more US riders to do it,That's a great stack of riders in there though
