New England is in the AFC.

Whether or not New England represents the AFC does not diminish the chances of Seattle representing the NFC.

The guy obstructed, and threw away his phone when the other text messages were found. He is guilty as shit.

The ban was steep because Tom Brady was undermining the sportsmanship of the game.

Oh well. Cheat if you can, I guess.

They offered to let his lawyer be present when they looked at the text messages and he said no. That is fair I would say.

Either way, he had something more on his phone than "deflate the balls". My bet is that there was some info about a chick, or chicks, that might have gotten exposed.

Which is exactly why I don't blame him for not letting them look at his phone. We all know how things get out now. Whatever was on his phone, would have leaked out. Whether it was related to deflategate or not.

And I would think that you would get something for destroying evidence. He's smelling like a rose!

Very deceiving numbers. The interceptions would have easily been taken to the house and they weren't due to receiver error. The defense just read him. Take a look at the game if you have the NFL network. They have been playing reruns of it. He's a good player, but you could tell that he is a young player.

Carolina does have a really good defense this year so that makes a difference too. He might have done better against other teams.

I know which conference they play in. Actually I was making a sour grapes insinuation from last year's SB. J/K of course.

How was it "evidence?" This isn't a criminal trial. He had no obligation to turn over his phone. That seemed like a grasp by the NFL to make him look guilty. Keep in mind, I think he's guilty, but I'm just pointing out they had no right to his phone.

Because he had text conversations with the ball boys about the situation and apparently they didn't have the full text stream. That phone was evidence in relation to the investigation. Doesn't matter if it was court case or not. When a guy tells you "I had nothing to do with" and he had communication with the people that are suspected to have physically done the act you either become a witness or a suspect............

Also, don't forget that the Patriots suspended the ball boys. If nothing intentional was done then why were they suspended?

Tom could give advice to the mob!! Everyone keep your mouth shut and get rid of the evidence!! That's how it's done in the court system from what I can tell.

Once again, why should they be able to go through his phone though? You keep trying to convince me he's guilty...which I've already stated I think he is. But that still doesn't mean they should have access to his phone.

Because it potentially had information on it relevant to the case. If you are arrested or detained by the cops they can go through your phone without your permission. They asked Tom and he flat out said no. As many have said in this thread he obstructed the process and destroyed evidence and what does he get for doing it...................more game checks.

Tom Brady is arguably the most important player in the league. He's definitely the most clutch over his career and thee absolute best at making players better around him, maybe ever. The rotating platoon of unknown specialist players he's played with over the last 5 years is mind blowing, and he should be past his prime. They've always had people to block for him and over the years they did get him some legit help but a lot of times it was no names guys stepping up. Pretty damn crazy considering he was a compensatory sixth round draft pick at #199. A lot of credit goes to the coaching staff also, Belichick gets the most out of guys.

He was guilty and should've sat a game or two. Basically had the NFL got all their ducks in a row and didn't crack the whip to hard to begin with the punishment may have stuck. I agree with him being concerned about his legacy, but I believe with modern day super athletes such as Brady it's more of an ego complex. The Crafts and the whole organization has a certain image to uphold and that's why they stood behind Brady the whole way with their fingers crossed.

Was he arrested or detained by the cops?
And I don't believe that police can 'go through' your phone without your permission when they 'detain' you...but that doesn't matter, since this didn't involve the police, nor did he 'break any laws'...

For one, comparing this to an actual criminal situation is ridiculous because they are not/should not be the same standards.

Second, how did he "destroy evidence" when it's not against the rules for him to get rid of his phone. It's not against the rules, and I highly doubt it's in the CBA that you're not allowed to get rid of you personal cell phone. It's not like it's a league issued cell phone. It's his personal phone. Therefore, since he didn't technically "destroy evidence" then how could he "obstruct the process?"

And it's not like the Pat's came away squeaky clean. Remember those 1st and 4th round draft picks and the $1million dollar fine. It's still there.

Goodell is a fuckin moron and Brady isn't.

People whining about this, realize that a court decided the actual result. Before it was a witch hunt with a result pulled out of someones ass.

"U.S. District Judge Richard M. Berman said NFL commissioner Roger Goodell went too far in affirming punishment of the Super Bowl-winning quarterback, criticizing him for dispensing "his own brand of industrial justice". "

I think Peyton Manning is up there with him. No doubt that Brady is exceptional and it would suck for something like this to taint his record. If New England is doing this, you know there are other teams deflating or over inflating.

The NFL mishandled the investigation. What I don't get is why Tom broke his phone. Why not just deny access to the phone? There was clearly something on his phone that he didn't seen about the footballs. That move alone screams guilty. How they got access to the ball boys texts is beyond me.

The problem with even giving weight to the phone situation when they aren't entitled to it is: what if he really did just accidentally break his phone? Once again, I don't think that's the case. But if he did, what the hell can they do about it? Nothing. It really has no merit since they aren't entitled to it. But I agree, it does make him look guilty.

Playing for the NFL is not a right it's a privilege.
Therefore you play by the rules given by the NFL. They need to change the process to only allow neutral arbitration and no court, but there nothing wrong with them wanting his phone.

I don't believe it was a "rule" that a player had to turn over their personal phone. Also, if that's your motto, does that motto extend to every job? After all, aren't all jobs a privilege?

Actually I think that it would extend to every job. At my job I have a contract I have to sign every year of the things I have to abide by if I want to work there. If I don't like the terms I just find a job somewhere else. If they can take your piss I'm not sure why they couldn't look at your phone. Now, if they did have that as a regular practice I imagine they wouldn't get too many people to work for them. I would quit before I let them do that personally. Now, if I made the money Brady makes I would have to think twice about quitting. Smile

Hence my first sentence. If you sign up for it and it's in the CBA, then by all means, you gotta hand it over. But if they just say "hey, give me your phone" then I'll tell them to shove it up their ass

If the bylaws of the company dictate you can't impede an investigation and you agree to those bylaws, then it applies to your job as well.

The NFL botched this case, Brady didn't "win it." In the future they will have updated their process and bylaws to prevent this from occurring again.

What a joke.
I wonder what James Stewarts opinion of this is.
James could go to Swiss Supreme Court if he wanted.

And in a lot of states you would get booted out the door. If it were as simple as Tom Brady saying "no I'm not going to give you my phone" that phone would have never come up missing.

From what I can tell the suspension was overturned for the simple fact that there was nothing in the bylaws that said "you will get a suspension of x length for this offense". It's more about the punishment that was given not weather he actually did what the NFL claims that he did. It's also apparent that the judge isn't questioning weather Brady is guilty of knowing what happened or with impleading the investigation by destroying the phone.

Like the OJ trial....
Great comparison, a murder trial.

Judges are biased as well. Brady cheated and everyone knows it. He got away with it because he's a pampered twit.

Just showing that judges/courts don't always get things right.
The ruling was not about Brady's innocence, but if the suspension had merit.

Post a reply to: Tom Brady suspension dismissed
