I think that Jeremy Martin and Cooper Webb can climb the ladder and stand in the top 5 or top 3 in 5 years.

And if I add the points Ken Roczen gain in the GP's and in the USA since 2010, he would stand in second position with 4138 points.
Dude this thread is full of impressive calculating and we appreciate the time and effort. Wish I knew you when I had statistics in college.......
Thanks man. I appreciate it.

Calculating wasn't tough (but a little bit long XD), what's more difficult is to talk about it in English. My English is not perfect, but I'm still learning.^^

I include them because they're not done yet. If they have race this year or they'll compete next year, they're active racers, so I include them...

There are 5 years gone.. And 5 years to go. Let's see who was closest in 2020. DP had a good run in Mx2 and was a known force when he hit mx1, so was cairoli, I agree that today it looks unlikely, but by 2020 he could be a 2 time world and 3 time ama champion.

racer? this one's tough... I'd say Villopoto, but it's very very hard to not say Dungey. the euro's are all over the fuckin' place so can't say any of them, maybe Cairoli if you were to say a euro.

doesn't matter.

the title (didn't read much of the subject matter to be honest) stated best rider of the decade.

nobody even comes close to being a better rider. stamp it, write it down, take a picture i don't give a f*ck - Smokey

Isn't this kind of tricky using points or wins? Great as it is kaido, I applaud you.

SX and mx wins in USA.

Are you counting nationals and GP events for the guys our side of the pond?

Stats are always open to betrayal and are so subjective to the data used.

Most points based on equal entry ratio is the only way for me.

Top 10 guys from anywhere, least amount of entries sets the bar, calculate points / wins / titles taken from this amount of entries, there's your dominant rider IMO.

RV2 as of now.

I think there are two type of riders these times, good by statistics and good by their riding.

I would say Ryan Villopoto and Dungey definitely, but still 5 years left.

BTW I am new, and glad to read you guys!

No, I count Roczen with European by only counting his GP results, and I count him with the american by counting his US results. Did the same for every rider who've race both sides.

That's why it's "the best racer of the decade" and not "the best racer of the day"...

Really kind of a silly argument, BUT, RD was never able to beat RV for a title they both completed...

I'll see what I can do for that.

Like the old saying goes; you have to be in it to win it. Dungey was/is always in it, and to that extent, kaidodragon is absolutely correct in his stats.

This is a fascinating thread, kaiddragon, but one stat that really blows me away is the gap between Dungey and Reed for wins. It's amazing to think that a rider who's had a career like Chad is 60+ wins behind Dungey, and damn near 100 behind RV.

Dungey lost two titles because of mechanicals. RV was only able to compete in two 450 outdoor titles, not exactly stellar.

Dungey did not lose two titles to two mechanicals, he scored less points than RV twice, that's how he lost.

I hate that fucking argument from the RD fanboys.

Stats and consistentcy? Dungey. Best rider and championship rider for 2010-2015? Ryan fucking villopoto.

interesting stats though. bb4 is really a surprise.

The OP has suggested a decade long championship and one rider clearly stands above the rest.
i understand but we are talking about the 'best rider of the decade'. as of now rv dominated everyone including ryan dungey. dungey was only able to beat rv straight up ONCE. what i mean by that to actually catch up to rv and pass him to win the race. that was at dungeys hometown sx in 2013 i believe. so if we are talking the best rider, I'd choose rv for his pure domination for years.

First, one can argue that Stewart was the leader in evolution of the sport in the last decade, but this decade, he has largely been nonexistent. Talent wise, he still is amazing but he will also largely be remembered for crashing out of championships as well as his talent. This could be the legacy of ET also.
2nd, You cannot go by points if you add 250 points. If the 250 rider was in the premier class he would not have finished in the same position which changes everybody's points. There are riders that dominated on the 250 that just could not get on track when the moved up (IT). Different discipline.
If the decade ended now you have to think hard whether it's RV or RD, but by the end of the decade RD's numbers will eclipse everyone's. Seeing we are discussing "of the decade" one would have to speculate it's going to be RD
