Did I mention west through the Texas Hill Country? Probably a hundred wineries and distillers out here. Some Swiss guy made the mistake of driving through Fredericksburg and ended up dismantling his farmhouses and shipping them over here. Nice place.

Easters kind of early but if this global warming keeps up Id look at seeing Mt Rainier off highway 12 here in Warshington. Its really breathtaking on a clear day.

For sure. I live on the longest continuous stretch of RT 66 and am amazed of the amount of national and international travelers that make this trip. On rental harleys, by RV or in a rental car. Definably have to make some time to get off the highway and go down some scenic 2 lane roads.

How much time you planning for this trip?

You can't see it all in one crossing. I think my favorite route would be from maybe D.C. to Portland, OR (which I've done over the last few weeks). Chicago, Milwaukee, U.P. in Michigan, South Dakota (I had a wolf trying to remove my spare tire cover in a wild animal park), Sturgis...

Go through Yellowstone if you get the chance. South Dakota through Montana is gorgeous.

agree with this, the drive we did from Millville though to Portland was unreal, seeing so many town names you have only seen in movies though the Dakotas and Montana was awesome,

I don't live too far from the Worlds Largest Dirt Clod but the Worlds Biggest Ball of Mud and Biggest Ball of Barbed Wire are just way better....hands down the COOLEST thing in these parts is the Worlds Deepest Hand Dug Well. Truthfully speaking, it really ain't much to look at. Turns out that most of a well is underground...go figger.

I have been to the big well several times but not since the tornado hit it.

I haven't either but I did pass thru Greensburg on the way to Thundervalley 2 years ago (taking the backroads thru KS). Man they went all out rebuilding that town. It looks real nice.

The wife and I did a cross country trip in like '98 and are thinking about doing it again soon with out kids. NC to LA to San Diego and back. Stopped in Nashville, OKC, Albuquerque, and Vegas on the way out. Didn't pre-book any rooms just decided to stop where we stopped. We had a AAA book and would call ahead (hotel) when we had an idea of were we wanted to stop. With cell phones now and travel sites that would be a breeze. It doesn't matter where you stop (big cities or small towns) you will see interesting things along the way. We came back the southern route stopping in El Paso, San Antonio, and New Orleans. We spent at least a day in each place and sometimes two and we spent several days in LA and San Diego.

Me and some friends are planning to do this trip too sometime soon, probably next summer. We haven't decided a route yet but have talked about New York - New Orleans - Austin - Dallas - Oklahoma and from the route 66 with some detours. Might go up to Lindborg too, would be fun to se how swedish it is, probably not that swedish Wink

Take 95 out of New York south to I-10. Turn west and drive all the way to LA. Then run Highway 1 north until it hits the 101 and keep going until you get to Seattle.
