you are correct the average rider can go faster on a 4 stroke , i do faster lap times on a 4 stroke but you forgot the main reason 2 strokes are more fun to ride , cheaper to run and you don't need to up grade your bike every season before a 4 stoke needs an engine rebuild .
if you are a pro racer yes race a 4 stroke , if you ride for fun do a few little races here and there 2 stroke is the way to go :-}}

I stopped watching mx in 1993, and restarted watching and following racing again in 2012. I have zero bias in the matter, but I can absolutely say that TO MY EYES, racing in the 4t era just doesnt seem as exciting. The riders look like they are going slower (i know they arent), and it just isnt as interesting to watch for me. I had a cousin visit saturday and we spent all day most of the night watching old races, and after a race from 06(outdoor, forgot which one) he said the 4t races werent as exciting also. I think 4t have changed racing for the worst as far as i am concerned.

I still love professional racing no matter what bike they ride. Is it diff now? For sure but hard work and talent still rise to the top. All that being said i totally agree with your post and Bradshaw ruled!!

I am the same way today. I really enjoyed watching the golden Ricky years 2000-2005, but nowadays it seems like the racing has literally slowed down and I find myself getting bored watching MX and SX on TV. I know these guys are flat out ripping, but just doesn't seem like they are flying like the guys in the past. I think it has to do with track layout nowadays. The tracks have become more of huge jumps than technical sections that require more personal technique than just mashing the throttle and you will be ok. Look at how supercross has changed over the years. Watching SX races from early 2000's to now it seems the technicality of the tracks has been really dumbed down and opened up. SX used to be really tight and technical where the riders who had the best technique really shined and made for some close racing. Now it seems there are "sections" of riders in racing. You have your guys who are always mid pack, you have your top runners, and then your bottom feeders. Seems like back then racing was a lot closer and only the true cream of the crop shined. Not saying the guys out front are not, it just seemed like the guys back then who were out front were complete animals and had to work a lot harder to be out front because the field was so deep.

Because it was DH and the 4T was viewed as an underdog back then just like anyone on a 2T today gets the same support [from the fans]
