My memory's not getting better with age but here is what I recall from the three T/C conversions I've be around ('89, '93, '95). You get lighter weight, improved front end rigidity and also I believe Showa started doing low-friction honing to the forks if you go with '04-'08 T/Cs... Swapping out the carrier from a pre '04 caliper is easy (it's the same caliper but just the hanger is different IIRC), so don't let that be a hindrance.

For my two projects, I tried to find the lowest hour forks-- which invariably were the newer ones. You can still find circular (i.e., not wave pattern) oversized front rotors on close-out from time to time on eBay for pre '04s, so IIRC on my '93 I have a set of '07 forks with a Titax 280mm front rotor and an '03 caliper.
Yeah I'm running '05 CR250 forks on mine - and the clamps were made for those Showas. This after our great postal service helped themselves to a SINGLE fork leg on the first order, luckily it was insured by OEM Dirt Bike Parts - check them out by the way they have a nice rating scale for fork condition. Our same beloved postal service is now striking, AGAIN, and I haven't been able to ship nine1seven's clamps as yet.

I'm waiting on cash to get an oversized front rotor from Scott at CRFStuff, It looks like a HRC item with no waves etc and comes with an adapter for your fork, you use the std caliper still. (See Col's build thread).

That was a question I had as well before. For me it came down to spring size options. I'm planning on P.C warmed over '11 Showa's on my '95 build.

Scott's a great guy. I have his rotor on my '95 replica and my '01 CR250 (yes... Too many Hondas-- or is that possible?!?) His version is a close copy of the HRC version. For my '93 and '89 I'm going for the 280mm Brand X oversized... I don't think Scott's version is as appropriate for the early 90s?

DJ said you actually got HRC zip ties for the front numberplate? Your build is going to be off the hook.

Nope, can never have enough Hondas. I'm busy with an early '70's CB550 - $4600 engine work, excel/talon motard rims and gsxr-600 fork, gonna be a little ripper! I plan to build a Dick Mann replica CR750 after the MC build.

Cool, I'll check it out!

Yip, got to keep it accurate! I hope so, and thanks to DJ for the graphics, and other bits it will be that much more special. (I sold another CB550 to buy some good sh#t from him Smile )

Hey mate,

Is the rotor better from CRFStuff than the ones from motowhips I sent you?

7/21/2014 11:37am
I haven't seen the motowhips ones, but I'm going to go with Scott from CRFStuff purely because he's all moto and has been very helpful to deal with.

Reading along here and I love what's going on!
Long story short, haven't owned a bike in years.
Have had a 1997 YZ125 (loved it), and a 1999 YZ426 (hated it).
Long story short, after kids, life, etc...I have been missing it.
Came acoss a 1996 CR250, basically stock, top end with under 15 hours, and I'm thinking I can get it for around $800.
Bad news is the back rim has one spoke missing, and the others seem to be froze up but tight.
Are these wheels readily available?
Wanting something to play on, tinker on, but don't want to get in over my head.
Hopefully not too much bike either lol!

Hey NLS, welcome back to two wheels! I ordered my stuff from Motosport.com in the States, they have spokes, rims and most of those parts especially as these fitted other years. Nothing like a fresh set of rims and spokes to make the bike look new!
Post pictures please!!

Thank you!
I was wondering how much it would affect the bike for now.
Would really like to just get on it and ride for a while to get my feet wet again, but don't want to make anything worse.
In reality, it will only get rode every so often, but it seems like a good deal I hate to pass up.

You don't want to ride with seized up spokes, it means you wont be able to tension spokes and true the wheels. Post up some pics when you can so we can see the condition. They may vey well be able to be worked loose with some WD40 and elbow grease. I think I paid around $600 for oem rims and spokes.

Well, No bike for me.
The guy put me off twice because of his schedule, finally Wednesday we locked down that we'd meet Saturday at 1pm. Literally a half hour before I was to leave to make the one hour drive, he texts me to say he sold it. I've been beyond p***** ever since.
Who knows when I'll find one at this point... anyway, thanks guys.

You should try the Euros. Dirk Timmer from Holland can be found on eBay ("Timmer_Dirk" or similar) and "RedElsinor" are both collectors/sellers. Also try Mastercross in Italy.

Mastercross had a '95 HRC CR250 pipe a while back. The ad you have on VintageBikeAds.com is also a good place.

It's red-elsinore on eBay. He and Dirk know each other and are Holland-based collectors and sellers.

Try the Bizaar. Any suspension builder should have plenty of extra ones to sell. Race Tech is franchised in multiple states, how far are you from Chicago? Be sure to get the spring rate measured before you buy, there are a lot of spring rate variations. Don't spend more than $80.

Is it the same skid plate as a '95? Works Connection used my '95 to make a new run of the plates.

No, the 92-93 (think also 94) glideplates fit the frames differently than the '95-6. I had to mod my '95 WC plate to work on my 93, not a big change, just had to be heated and bent to fit properly
