The best way to fight the falling rain is to simply cut a slit in your goggle lenz, approx. 1/8 inch wide, and 1 inch long, right in front of your eyes.

Then apply the tear offs over the modified lenz.

The tears off will get you through for awhile...the modified lenz, will get you to the finish line.

Minimal rain will enter, and zero mud. It is not the best vision, but I promise you won't have to remove them, or quit.

Hand controls are a big issue when racing in the rain/cold.

MSR, makes, and sells Hand D-Flectors, they mount with a strap, and cover your entire hand, keep them dry, and warmer. Part #34-0183...but if you're racing tomorrow, you're late.

Good luck

a slit in the goggles....hummmm...never heard of that before. I like it. Now I can't wait for the day that I get to try it.

This may be a dumb question....do you cut it vertical or horizontal? I'm thinking horizontal but then again maybe vertical would be better.
Horizontal...As it rarely rains on race days here, I have two sets of goggles, prepared as I suggested. It really works.

Hand protection is a must as well...wet hands get cold, and numb. I keep a set of MSR (Elephant ears, I call them) in my arsenal. They are MSR Hand D-Flectors.

Understand that when it it raining the rain feels like little needles piercing your face/skin. This procedure protects you of that feeling.

I am the kind of guy to excel in adverse conditions, simply by being better prepared.

Wear some latex gloves underneath regular gloves for warmth. It is easy.

WD-40, hold it wfo and stay loose. I love mud. The worse the better.

In my prime, I'd line up against RC in the Mud.

That said, park the bike and eat some turkey. Unless racing for money, or getting paid, it aint worth it.

Or, buy something that all those rich fucks in the bay area have, and go have fun. When you are all done, your shits clean.

Flip out a lawn chair in the back of your trailer or hauler and watch the action.
When we raced in the mud all the time, 2 80's in a crate were 1200 bucks. Shit, we'd just turn a mud race bike into a practice bike.

We rode all day every day no matter what, so going through numerous bikes a year was normal.

Moto isn't cheap anymore.

go with roll offs, so some guy don't have to pick up all those tear offs! LOL better yet don't follow anyone and you won't need tear offs or roll offs!

main thing like bobby says "pin it" thats usually a good plan in mud!

mud is a blast, and if you fall it's just like landing on a big pile a leaves.

Is the general idea here to look through the slits, instead of through the rain coverd lense?

I'll add to the list- Rain X on the outside of the lense. No-Fog on the inside.

Correct...

If you have ever raced in the pouring rain, you know that No-Fog, and Rain-X, won't last an entire Moto...This just helps to see to the end.

If you do this, you can count the guys you pass, that have pulled their goggles off

I always want more rain. I like it when it's muddy but I hate it when it starts to dry out. Sounds like fun on someone elses bike. \ Attack the track or it will beat you. That's the way mud works.

Cool idea about the slit in the goggles. But, with all that water getting in, can it get out fast enough?

Oh, momentum. Smooth and steady through everything. Put a smile on. Let that bike drift, if it's that kind of slick. I love the mud.

MOTO ONE

got a good jump off the line, had the hole shot and the lead until about lap 3 when i went down because i got cross rutted. took about a solid minute to get my bike starte. by the time i got going i think i was like second to last i cant remember right. i manage to make up about 8 positions and finish 13th. i was pretty satisfied with it but wanted more.

MOTO TWO

got a better jump on the pack this time, the track dried up a little bit but not enough to really pin it around the track. i led the first 12 laps then went down with about a 15 second lead. got up and started going after i got passed by tow people. i started pushing harder and trying to find lines no one was using that might work. ended up staying in 3rd. i took 7th overall. not to bad for me i would say.

keeping momentum and i couldnt convince myself to do the slits in my goggles but i wanted to try it. and staying super loose was a big key my bike seemed to have a mind of its own so i just kinda stuck it in a rut and let it bounce and go whereever it wanted.

The slits in the goggles are only if it is still raining, and I hope you have more than one set of goggles.
