How do you know if you have had a minor consussion? I had a pretty nasaty spill last night. I saw some stars, but was never confused and functioning normally afterwards. It was during practice before a night race. I still ended up racing because I felt fine, and I rode well.

I'm just a little concerned because my wife and I are going out tonight with some good friends who we haven't seen in a while, and I"m sure we will be doing a good amount of drinking. I'm probably being paranoid, but I'm just curious what experiences you guys have had with this type of thing. I'm sure I'm fine, I just don't want to cause any damage by drinking. We have a 4 month old baby and haven't been out in a long time, and could really use a night to let lose.

Headache, fatigue, nausea, dizziness.

Wouldnt hurt to get it checked though, not really something you should self-diagnose.

I would very seriously suggest you don't drink tonight. I made that mistake a couple of months ago, ate dirt, went out that night a had a few, was a mess the next day.

Give it a few days and see how you feel, and try really hard not to hit your head again in the coming weeks.

It doesn't sound like you had one if you didn't end up confused or forgetful afterwards. Going to the doctor would be a waste of time. They aren't really going to tell you anything that you don't already know. And to actually find anything out you would have to drop a bunch of money on an MRI.

What's more important to you, drinking or the future health of your head?

If you felt ok to race, you're probably fine. But in the long run, why not be a bit cautious and forego drinks for one night?

I would add to the symptoms others have noted blurred vision or difficulty focusing. One of the more memorable ones I had, I pretty much felt fine the next day (though I'd been knocked out). I found reading difficult though, it was hard to focus on the words and see clearly. Doc said it was a concussion.

I think you will be fine. If you have too much fun tonight and get in trouble with your honey, just blame it on a concussion tomorrow!

Haha thanks for the input guys. I think I will still have a few drinks but take it a little easier than I normally would.

First sign of a concussion is lack of ability to spell simple words correctly. You spelled nasty as nasaty. Better go in for a FULL evaluation!Blink

Go big or go home Spicoli. I'm no neurosurgeon, but I've had a good number of concussions. If you felt well enough to race and didn't have any ill affects throughout the night/following day, hammer that stuff down like Captain Jack Sparrow.

unless you are out (totally limp) I wouldn't worry too much, with the way people throw around the concussion term now a days. Baseball players sit out 2 seasons for getting a small knock on the ole noggin, as in a TAP on their head. I used to smoke bowls after my ko's and im no dingus let me tell you

I have had 13 concussions that I know of and everything was fine through the first 12 after the 13th one my short term memory was greatly affected. I guess what I am trying to say is go easy for a few days it is not worth the risk.
