This guy dropped an "arm chair racer" statement at it's finest. Have you ever just followed somebody for a moto and THEN tried to find your MOJO for the last few laps? Isn't as easy as you say it is from your keyboard. Real racers find their "groove" so to speak and ride it till the end. Backing off has a tendency of creating mistakes. And crashes.
Like yesterday, Eli was not on full speed prior the crash.
And as he mentioned he didn't expected it there.

So he felt safe and this is usually 1st step to a crash.

Truth. Start backing down and your guard goes down as well. Has happened to me on more than one occasion while out front. I race till the checkered flag to prevent it. No matter how alone I am on the track during the last few laps.

The only thing I question is why Eli thought he had to take that line through all the rough stuff at that point in the race. I believe it was a couple laps after Eli crashed, they showed Roczen and he was going way to the outside in that section because it was a lot smoother (relatively speaking of course).

Eli had a huge lead at the time he crashed and no one was going to catch him. Even if he did decide to take the outside line in that downhill section and it was slower. Besides, he's been railing the outside of corners with aplomb in all these opening rounds (making a lot of his passes on the outside). And he wouldn't have had to back it down. Just change up his line through that section.

I hope he's alright and ready to go at the same pace next week. I was really looking forward to seeing him on his A game at Millville (again) this year. This sucks, but motocross can be a very cruel Mistress some times.

That's what I was wondering too c dub. I just wonder what lapper may have been ahead of him on the outside? Idk, sucks for Eli that is how the championship goes down. I dont see him coming back full speed for a little while now. Dungey could have a gap by then. Time will tell. I'm sure Eli is tough enough to line up next weekend but it won't be the same Eli.

I honestly thought Tomac was too smart to do what he just did. I thought chasing someone down he could do that, but not with a big lead.

All this "He HAS to go that fast or he'll crash!" stuff is ridiculous. If he'd cooled his jets a little coming down that hill he'd still be with us today---that I can garantie. I pretty surprised at how fast he was entering that gnarly section, and seconds later he was on the ground.

I'm wishing he'll be back next week, but even if he's out I'm less bummed than when Bubba did this 3 years ago. Roczen'll make it interesting.
THIS. This all day.

How do you know he wasn't backing it off on that downhill? Can you tell visually that he was going into that corner at the same speed he was in the opening laps?

The difference between going all out and backing off in one area like that is a matter of 1/10ths of seconds.

Very true. There could have been a lapper up ahead on the outside. We don't really know for sure. If there wasn't though? I can see his decision of line selection being what eats him up inside over this ordeal. I know it would me. He'll probably handle that aspect of it far better than I ever could though.

That's what I'm afraid of too. Even if he comes back, he probably won't be the same racer (even if his physical health allows him to be). At least for awhile anyway.

No THIS. Maybe there was a lapper ahead outside. Maybe just something to learn.

I've dislocated mine 6 or 7 times over the last 8 years - first caused by falling off a trials bike when I was a teenager. It's agonizing when the shoulder is out, but as soon as it's popped back in, you're literally fine.

Once it's been out though, the worry is that - like with mine - it becomes weakened, and happens over again. I've dislocated mine by rolling over in bed, for example - nevermind by flying off a motocross bike at 30 MPH. So you then start to become conscious of that and protect the arm by not using it as much, which isn't really conducive to elite sporting performance.

I had surgery on mine, and while the number of dislocations has reduced, it didn't fix it completely.

A real shame for Tomac though, if it does become a persistent problem for him. Because when you're beating the likes of Dungey and Roczen by 20 seconds every moto, then you have a legit claim to be the fastest guy in the world.
Bingo. Usually 1 dislocation is ok if u let it heal and rehab right. 2nd 3rd 4th etc is when the problem starts
