My bike is stuck in 2nd gear and the shifter won't even move. Any guesses on what the problem might be?

Pull the clutch side covered n have a look at the parts in this drawing. Most of the time this is where the issue is ,however not knowing the history of the bike nor was any info given as to what action whet on just before it stopped shifting. The problem could be deeper, like a broken gear or shifter arm.

Thank you! It was running great on the track then all of a sudden the shifter wouldn't move when I tried to shift up out of the corner. It ran fine in the gear it was in.

I have had the little spring loaded pawls that make the ratchet part of the shift mechanism work get stuck on older bikes with sludgey oil.you have to pull the inner clucth cover off and remove the clucth basket to get too it.
