I need a new rear brake rotor for my 2006 rm125 as the current one is bent/warped. I am stuck between a Galfer Wave rotor or the Tusk Typhoon. How much does the Tusk rear rotor weigh? I'm guessing the Galfer would be lighter, but is the Tusk an extremely heavy rotor compared to all other rotors? The Tusk rotor is only $60 and the Galfer is double that at $113 (or more). Which rotor would last longer? Which has better brake performance? I like the look of the Galfer better but is the extra cost justifiable? As of now I'm leaning toward the Galfer even though it's on the expensive side. In this case can I just assume you get what you pay for?

I pretty much go with Tusk rotors. I'm a GNCC and harescramble racer, and in an average year I roach 3 front rotors and 2 rears. Doesn't matter which brand I use. That's why I go cheap...used EBC and Galfer before, and don't really see a difference in longevity or braking power/effort. (I run sintered metal pads...nothing else, and that's rough on rotors). If you're going to go oversize though, I'd run either Galfer or EBC. Can't say anything about the weight. Never weighed them.

X2---I'm a hare scramble racer also, So put me down for 1 oem rear rotor, and 1 Tusk rotor for last year. I also use sinter pads as well on the rear. The difference in weight between the 2 was not noticeable as far as I could tell, although I did not weight them, and neither is the stopping power. The quality of the Tusk rotor is every bit as good as the oem rotor as well. I liked it enough to buy the Tusk 270mm kit for the front, and am really pleased with it, and the added braking power is a huge improvement. There is no way I could justify the price difference between Tusk and Galfer rotors. The only rear rotor that I can honestly say was better that either of those 2 mentioned here, was a solid wave rotor made by Braking. I was able to get 10--2 to 2.5 hr hare scrambles race out of a single set of their(Braking) brake pads, which is a crazy amount of races for a single set of pads. I was able to do that consistently with that setup as well. Twenty races 2 set of pads for the entire year.

I mainly ask about the weight of the Tusk rotor because of two reasons:

1. I have a 125, in which lightweight is important. You wouldn't want to run the heaviest rotor out there on a 125 would you?

2. Would the heavier tusk last longer? I can't find how much they weigh. I know the Galfer weighs 1.27lbs, which I assume is pretty light.

Why is the Tusk so cheap? Is it because other brands try to make lightweight yet strong parts that cost a lot to do so? And Tusk makes a strong part but doesn't worry about shaving weight at all therefore producing a strong and cheap, but heavy part?

The only difference in weight that you will notice is in your wallet. The difference in weight, if there is any between the 2 , has not affected my race results at all. As far as wear goes, the Tusk rotor is every bit as strong as the OEM one it replaced.Tusk makes quality products at affordable prices. I'll buy another one when, or if this current one gets damaged.
