SX is tough

So I was browsing the points and noticed something that at least interested me. Only 8 riders have gotten points at every round so far. One of which is the obvious Dungey and that surprises no one, but one is Josh Grant who no one would have picked for this and 3 of the others, Anderson, Seely, and Baggett, are all rookies.

I'll have to go back at years past and look at how many riders got points at each round and how many rookies did the same. In my mind though its a pretty impressive showing by the rookies and really great to see Grant staying upright through a season.

Chad Reed would be on that list too if it wasn't for the black flag

If your aunt had balls she'd be your uncle.

Not as bad as 2012 when there was only 3 riders that scored points at every round.

I went threw the points quick back to 09 and it seems like 6~7 riders finishing all rounds in a year is kind of the norm from this small set of data. Not that it predicts anything just kind of a neat way to look at things. Also its kind of interesting that even though RV went on a 4 title tear, he only ever got points at every round in 2 seasons of the 450 class. Plus I was surprised how much Millsaps showed up.

2014 – 6 Riders total, Villopoto, Dungey, Roczen, Stewart, Short, and Alessi
2013 – 7 Riders, Villopoto, Millsaps, Dungey, Barcia, Short, Brayton, and Tickle
2012 – 3 riders, Millsaps, Alessi, Metcalfe *RV champ missed last 2 rounds
2011 – 7 riders, Reed, Dungey, Short, Windham, Millsaps, Wey, Blose, *RV champ missed Jacksonville DNQ
2010 – 7 riders, Dungey, Windham, Millsaps, Brayton, Hill, Wey, Byrne,
2009 – 6 Riders, Stewart, Reed, Short, Windham, Tedesco, Millsaps

This is why I think we should have 2-3 throw-away races.

I did the math in another thread. Throw away races would accomplish nothing. I only went back to 2011, but there was only 1 instance where second and third would have swapped places if there was throw away races. It wouldn't change anything, I don't understand why people keep suggesting it.

Also I only looked at the top three, maybe if I expanded to top five I would find a little more swapping of places.

I'm also against throw away races. Heck even in the couple series I race I never make it to 100% of the events and I don't like at the end of the year they drop my zeros and bring me closer to the top guys. I didn't earn it so it just doesn't sit right with me.

Ok, so I decided to do the research and go back to 2007 and expand to the top 5. (I did not check 2012)

1 time 2nd and 3rd would have swapped positions. 2011
2 times 3rd and 4th would have swapped positions. 2010, 2008

Finally, almost every year the points race would have become more spread out, which is how this topic came up to begin with. People want a more competitive points race, well throw away races will only make it more boring.
