Beatiful thing, watched it again a bit ago. A jacked up track like that makes for bad tv ,maybe, but damn good racing.
That is one thing I like about mxgp,no tractors out there making like my garden.
If my local stuff was left like that ,well, that would never happen, delusional thinking

That is an amazing stat.

I'm starting to think I might be wrong on this. The times don't line up. It should be impossible for Bengtsson to have a faster speed than a guy a head of him who's run the same amount of laps. Need to digger deeper into this. Either way. FIM want's the speed decreased to 50km/h on all FIM local tracks to prevent injuries. It has worked really good over here in Sweden. Therefore we can see speed on the protocols over here.
Cause you could do 80 and 30 and average 55.
And I applaud this, they go way to fast here and the tracks are insane in airtime anymore.
It may be for the tv show but the only people watching are motoheads,it aint dragging other people in ,always been that way, always will.
Quote them to the average yokel, and they'll never be impressed.
I'm not 100% sure, but GPs have had an average speed limitation of around the 60 / 65 Kmph for years now. I'd be surprised if there was not one for the US Nats tracks.
MX, is not fast - in terms of numbers. SX, must be hilariously low in 'numbers' you can quote.. Yet we, who ride, know just how bloody fast the riders are.
I was recently watching a few classic GPs. Ones with notably fast, fast sections. Far more so than any now, anywhere. To then hear the commentators give out a lap average speed of just over 55 Kph. Just makes you realize how tricky / tight many sections of a course are.
Then you get races like the Isle Of Man TT, and Irish Real Roads Racing. Now those numbers, are bloody frightening, especially when you see the narrow sections in villages / towns and between stone walls. I think the record lap average speed, on the TT course of 37.7 / .8 miles, with over 200 corners per lap, is in the 132.7 Mph range. Aye Carumbah! Brave, Brave men ( and a few women) indeed. Few specially built Moto GP courses, get average lap speeds near the TT, and some Irish Real Roads Races.
With my work 'contra deals', I've the option to go to a few MX GPs this year, and the MXDN, as usual. I've also got the option to go to the IOMTT, again. And,the Manx GP / IOM Classic GP weeks have also been dangled in front of me. I'm probably taking the 'double' on the Isle Of Man. Ernee was a Zoo in 2005 - it will be a nightmare this year, so I might just stick to being a Tar Baby. Mind you, I'm agitating for more work, to get to some MX GPs, And, especially, a Sidecarcross GP. They, are brilliant!.
Pit Row
Also just out of interest what part of the track was "jacked up"? I watched it all and didn't see any raised sections & looked fairly flat? But then they don't show the entire track on TV either?
call BS all you want, I will never forget it.
Edit: I remember that being specifically TOP speed, not Average. My bad.
Post a reply to: notice how low the speed was on that jungle track
