While Roczen is in the air (ATL crash into the wall), he is doing some shaking of his legs/feet. Is this panic, or is he trying to fix something. Not trying to criticize Roczen, it just seemed like something was very wrong as he landed and didn't slow down before hitting the wall. Dude is tough!

He was trying his best to pull up on the handle bars. When you nose dive like that, the first thing you do is panic rev and start pulling up.

I think he was clenching his buttocks to keep from shitting in his pants.

It's because he seat bounced the jump and it tried to eject him over the bars. Once cased the jump and his feet were off the pegs there was no way for him to control his landing and he had to go straight.

The real question though, is how a seatbounce actually works?

Very similar to how James wadded himself up in Daytona in 2011

Slightly off topic and I don't want to derail the thread(it's still related to accident procedures), but Dungey said something the other day, and it was the same thing I have heard from many people from many years.

"Give the bike gas to get the front end up." is what he said. I've also heard, "Tap the rear brake to bring the front end down."

I've used both methods when hitting jumps, but my thought is giving the bike gas doesn't bring the front end up, it brings the rear end down. The end result is pretty much the same, the front is higher than the rear. Same with tapping the rear brake, it brings the rear end up, not drop the front end. That's why you see Stewart tap the brake when he knows he's going to case something, to bring the rear end UP and maybe clear the obstacle a little more and prevent a severe case. You are altering the gyro of the REAR wheel, so the rear would be the one that moves up or down. Sorry for the rant, it's a pet peeve of mine.

As mentioned above, he is pulling himself back to the bike ... which is trying to eject him.

Watched it a few more times. I see what you mean now... looks like he is trying to pull himself back down towards the bike using is legs/feet/boots. I've never been in the air that long on a bike to know the feeling. Have always been a HareScramble guy.

Unfortunately, the man with the answer to that question left us a short while ago!

It is because you are lowering the center of gravity which causes more work to be done as the bike is going off the jump ~TFS

how would it affect the boost of a turbocharger once they become the norm?

Zycki11 cool insight. in the old days you just panic revved it, so it's interesting to hear that. i probably wasn't high enough in the air to to have time to pull up on the bars.
