Found out Red Bull filed a complaint against a local brewery called Old Ox. Logo is nothing similair to Red Bull and neither is the name. Seems pretty bad they are doing this to a small business. I have no affiliation with Old Ox, haven't been there (yet), but I hope to start a small brewery when I get out of the Army. this type of stuff just seems so stupid to me.

I am a huge KTM fan, but good riddance Red Bull. Just lost a customer

I just looked that up and read a couple of articles about it. What a load of crap. Seems to me Red Bull is really underestimating the intelligence of their customer base if they think people would confuse their company with Old Ox.

On a similar note, did you see this one?...

I have seen that article before. I am working on my Bachelors degree and everything is beer related!!! That case was dropped, but I can't believe that was a case as well. I like Lagunitas as well, but that seems like crap too. I do know it is hard to get labels approved so I am not sure if that has something to do with it. Honestly though, I can't see a case in either (Red Bull/Old Ox or Laguintas/Sierra Nevada) have brand confusion. Especially Old Ox/Red Bull; two different markets.

Really looks bad on Red Bull's part. I guess they think its a small brewery and they are a global company.

A degree in beer would be awesome! Is it heavy on the science of brewing, or is it more business related with emphasis on brewing?

The Lagunitas lawsuit pisses me off because I really like their beers (Little Sumpin' Sumpin' is one of my favorites), but the more I read about the owner, the more he sounds like a world class douche.

Attorneys for the energy drink assert some consumers might confuse the brands because “An ‘ox’ and a ‘bull’ both fall within the same class of ‘bovine’ animals and are virtually indistinguishable to most consumers.

I wish I could get a degree in brewing. Mine is in Business Administration, although UC Davis has one of the best in California.

I am transitioning to night shift now, so posts might be a little confusing because I am so tired and typing weird stuff, I might ramble. My schooling is totally business related right now. do want to go to UC Davis, but I want to give the GI bill to my kids. I will probably end up at UC Davis at some point.

I am with you. Lagunitas is good, but this bad press is hard on them. I like Brown Shugga, but there are lots of different breweries to go to.. The lawsuit stuff turns me off. I hope to open a kick ass place in Kansas in 10 years.

You don't need a degree in brewing. You need to be really interested in it and common sense. Know a lot of people who has a brewery as a side gig and a couple of them are trying to build a carreer out of it right know, one just applied for a license. Micro breweries are popping up everywhere these days. The equipment is about 3-4k though for smaller batches. And I assume we are talking about beer.

I remember a business class I had in college, used the beer industry as an example of an oligopoly.
An industry that the break even point took a whole bunch of production and not many producers where involved.
So untrue now, this was a long time ago.

The next big thing will be micro distilleries.
Mark my words. I know a guy doing it already.

Yes, we had one open a few years ago by where we used to live on the other side of town. Rebecca Creek distilleries.

Yeah, we have the micro distilleries starting up around here too.

Between Wine, Microbrews, Microdistilleries and legal Pot we have the market cornered on getting your buzz on.

I was sued by the POS at Pom Wonderful. They thought the logos and names were too similar.

The yellow circle in the center is the "O", and if you take the can and turn it sideways, you can see how the lines between silver and blue create an X. Thus, spelling "Ox."

The two bulls are also red in color. What else is red and has horns? THE DEVIL.

Also, if you look at the "B" in Bull, the B makes 13. The number 13 is the number of rebellion and is representative of Satan's attempt to mimic God.

It also contains Taurine, a word which is a very similar to the word to Taurus, which is a bull, just like the ones on the can. It is also a shitty car. Jesus would never drive a Taurus.

I was wrong in my post, not a lawsuit but a complaint filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Still pretty lame I think.

Beer. This is a topic that I can speak about with some authority. Not only have I spent time in Europe where the stuff was perfected but I'm a huge drunk which qualifies me as somewhat of an expert in the art of the quaff. IMO the VAST majority of American micro is pure swill. The wrong yeast...the wrong hops. Unfiltered? News flash....beer isn't filtered. It "fines". Which means it ferments and all the yeast and sediment "drops or settles" to the bottom. This usually takes about a month but depends on temperature and style of beer. If your beer has shit in it...that means the brewer reached a certain specific gravity and said "that's it"...bottled/kegged early and saved some coin. Yes I brew and yes I've poured more down the bathtub than I've considered "good stuff". Not saying I'm an expert on brewing but I don't have to be an artist to recognize art.

Pearl Brewing Company out of San Antonio, Texas, the brewer that makes Pabst Blue Ribbon, sued a tiny brewery in my little Denver neighborhood.

The Denver Pearl Brewing Co, located on Pearl Street was sued because their name was too similar.

Instead of going to court with Pearl Brewing Co, they decided to go ahead and change their name to Platt Park Brewing Co., after our super cool neighborhood.

It actually turned out pretty good for our local brewer. They got some national press from it...

Thanks Sully. Good article. It will be a lot of hard work, but at the same time I think it will be very enjoyable. Its crtazy how much the craft beer market has exploded over the last few years.

Everybody got tired of drinking owl piss I guess. But there is a lot of craft beer out there that is pretty disgusting. The wife hooked me up with a Beer of the Month membership for Christmas and I now get a twelve pack a month with three each of four different beers. Some good, some pretty good, some not so good and then there was the pine sap shit. Not sure why someone would make beer that smelled and tasted like a pine tree. And I've never really tasted a pine tree...lol.

I've brewed up a couple of "kit" beers, a coffee porter and a dunkel. Both turned out quiet well. Got a few more to try but have to set aside a day for that though, takes a bit of time.

I started out with the Mr. Beer kits, and made some really good beers with those. The online home brew stores offer a lot of great recipe kits as well. I started buying grains and hops in bulk and creating my own recipes after about. Makes it more fun creating different recipes.

I started doing two different batches on brew days. Only adds about 1.5-2 hours extra if you start the second mash while the first beer is boiling. Still makes for a long day with setting everything up and cleaning everything afterwards. I am in the process of building a brewing stand complete with an electric control panel that should help reduce the amount of time on brew days.

I am with you on the Juniper beers. I have never liked those or Belgian Wit's (like Blue Moon). I can't stand coriander.
