Heads up display. The team decided he needed a speedometer to judge wether or not to jump the triples.

Back in the early 90's I had some Smith turbo fan goggles with a built in fan on top to keep from fogging. also had the battery powered roll offs on them. You had to wave your hand over the sensor on the side to get it to roll.. My whole head was buzzing on the starting line.. lol. Wish I still had them.

Transworld said it was a lens heater to keep them from fogging up.

Why would they need a goggle cam when they have gopros?

Cause a Gopro is in a spot that jeopardizes the safety of a helmet. And Oakley can capitalize on that.

Those photo sensor roll offs worked great until a mud clod hit the sensor, and it just rolls whatever you had left up .

When has a Gopro ever caused injury to someone by compromising a helmet. And besides Gopro sponsors him so it would be like when FMF tried to make an energy drink.

I had Scott 109 Electronic Roll offs back in the 90s with the light sensor on the side. Loved them except they constantly needed to be fixed. I can't believe 20 odd years later with all the technology we have now they haven't been perfected and become popular. Seriously???? They could have GPS marked positions to automatically roll., way smaller, lighter better batteries. Etc etc.

I still have a set of those in my closet, but its the updated version that has a big yellow button you push. The light sensor ones sucked, you hit it with a dirty glove and it spun through the whole roll lol

Awesome. I noticed it and thought why would he go with a roll Off and not tear offs like everyone else.

Michael Schumacher's injury was claimed to have been made worse by his helmet mounted gopro. That's a matter of some debate.

But it's a moot point as GoPro's contract prevents any other type of bike or rider mounted camera from being used in SX.

You must have missed the whole 'Michael Schumacher is in a coma because his GoPro went straight through his helmet into his head and in turn made him pretty much completely braindead' saga then...

These have been around for a while now - I'm surprised they aren't big in the US yet...

Actually, Tear-offs has been banned in WEC and ISDE as of this year. Also Euro-champs and all Swedish Enduro as well. We need bio-degradable tear-offs NOW!

Yep.. that's what happened to me.. threw them off near the mechanics area during a moto and when I found them, they were busted to shit. Probably had the cost of a pair of Oakley Airbrakes into them..... 20 years ago..

I'd say that's more to do with a poor quality helmet then the Gopro, I've crashed many times while wearing a gopro (dirtbiking, MTB, and snowboarding) and a Gopro has never compromised my helmet. Any time I've had a significant hit to the head the camera just popped off.
