Im wondering what the best size torque wrench(s) would be to have in my tool box? Also what is an affordable brand that you can recommend?

3/8s is the best size to have. You can use an adapter if you need a 1/2 size socket on it. Brand wise just go with Snap On they are the best.

i think a 20-100# 3/8 and a 1/4 drive for sub 20# would be ideal.
not much more than 60-70# on an mx bike. i think my swingarm pivot is 70#

Sears has affordable quality torque wrenches for sale online. I would stay away from the new Craftsman ones out now though. I picked one up in store one time, the handle was wobbly and when I gave it a shake it sounded like a baby rattle. Same goes for the ones Harbor Freight sells.

You don't need snap-on or any of the other tool truck brands unless you are using them every day or making a living with them in my opinion. They are accurate and quality pieces however. I have a Matco 3/8" 10-100 Ft-lb and an ATD 3/8" in-lb myself.

Ive been looking for a 1/4" in-lb model with the smallest ratchet head possible. When installing the cam caps on my bike in the frame, the rear center bolt is very close to the frame. My ATD has a very large round head so I have to borrow a friends snap-on torque wrench to access it. Just something to consider when shopping for one.

defiantly dont get a cheap one, there very inaccurate, even snap on and mac ect have to get calibrated every year. and always 0 out the adjustment when your done so it stays in spec longer. I have the snap on digital ones, there a little pricey but they recalibrate themselves every time you turn it on, and have an angle gauge not really for mx but good to have. Buy it once and be done, Dont buy a $50 one and over torque your cam cap bolts and ruin your cam!

Precision Instruments - http://www.torqwrench.com/

Spend $300 and get a 0-25ft-lb dial wrench, then get the 20-100 split beam. Made in the USA, come with certs of calibration and the best part - serviceable unlike the Craftsman junk.

$300 and you are set for life....do it!
